All A question

Featured Replies

Serious question. As I can tell via the updates on here, there are games going on right now...during school hours and education time. It was my understanding that only KHSAA recognized state events were the ONLY sporting activities that allowed students to miss education time. From my discussions around the ALL A tournament, several of the defenses used was that this is not a KHSAA state tournament. So how do students, teams and schools get around the rule for this tournament?

Is there an exception made? Is this really a KHSAA recognized event? Or are my interpretations of the rules incorrect? The rules seem to be pretty straight forward.

Special rules, for special teams. :lol2:

Good questions, especially for the public schools. Early dismissals, late starts, etc. to attend a non-sanctioned event? This could be viewed as no different than a Club Soccer, AAU Hoops, or travel softball tournament. I imagine the Private schools have more leeway and flexibility.

My suggestion would be to contact Stan Steidel with this question. Due to the fact he is one of the founding fathers of All A Tourney and a member of the KHSAA Board of Control, I would think that there are no infractions here??

I'm sure there has been clearance. It wouldnt have made it to this poont if otherwise. I'm just curious how? And I do agree the private schools may have more flexibility, but I have no idea how the public schools do it. I'm assuming the answer is because this IS recognized by KHSAA as a state event. Therefore many arguments made that this is not a separation of classes, but "just another tournament" are invalid.

If you want to get a hold of Stan (Holmes AD ) he is sitting on press row a few feet away from Lawnboy.?

Can anyone produce a document showing that this tournament is sanctioned? The whole state seems to operate on a handshake and wink of the eye. Also, who's keeping the All-A profits (if there are any)

The All A does a better job of reimbursing teams than the KHSAA for state tournaments.

Also an EHO can be used for students if necessary.

I think schools have the freedom to cancel school for a variety of reasons as long as they are made up by the end of the year. A school's schedule and calendar is developed by the district itself operating under a good deal of autonomy.

Nice to meet you.

A few years back the Rose Hill basketball program wasn't allowed to play in the district, regional or KHSAA State Tournament because they were suspended from them but the were allowed to play in the all A. The reason they could do that was because it's not considered a KHSAA event. It's just a few games being played by small schools and a few schools that aren't so small.
