Listened to the last quarter on the radio, sounded like CCH was up 16 at one time. The McNeil brothers are nice players. It is good for CCH to be in a couple tight situations, maybe it will payoff at tourney time.

Never underestimate the will of a hard-nosed team that is incredibly well coached. Cooper battled back from a 32-18 deficit at the half, #12 and #20 got hot fom the arc, and we had a lot of drama in the last 1:30.

Spencer Holland sat all but the first min of the 1st half after picking up his 2nd foul. Didn't play until the 2nd half and he was the offensive spark they needed putting up 15 in the 2nd half.

 

Cooper fought back after being down 18-32 at half. Defense stepped up and it was a tie game with until Cooper fouled on a 3 pt shot. Z McNiel put up a long 3 as time ran out as the ball went off the back of the rim. Game over.

 

A little controversy at the end. CCH had a foul to give as Cooper inbounded with 2.9 secs left in the game and fouled Z McNeil at half court. Cooper fans swear he was in the act of shooting, CCH fans swear he wasn't. The foul was called non shooting.

 

What a great game, plus I got to spend it with Metcsh and finally got to meet TOG.

 

PI think this was a wake up call to the region that any team on any given night can win the region. Cooper won't lay down.

I just thought of this. There was a really bad officiating call in the second half. I need some help from someone to explain this one.

CCH shoots a 3 and misses, just hits the bottom of the net and goes out of bounds. Cooper inbounds the ball because it was out of bounds on CCH. The refs called the shot good.

I think the points stayed even after the refs got together to talk about it, I may be wrong though.

Can someone explain that one?

Oh, and anyone wondering about how the students would behave with Ryle students there etc. Ryle never showed up.

I thought the exact same thing that the lob pass hit the net under the basket, but CovCath stat guys who were right behind the basket said it went in. Said the Cooper kid even took the ball inbound after that (I didn't think he did).

Just to clarify, the shot didnt go out of bounds, the Cooper kid jumped, caught it in the bottom of the net, then stepped out of bounds to inbound it. I'm certain that is what led to everyone's confusion.

With the "W" CovCath improves to 22-1 and next play at the Bank of Kentucky Center on the Campus on Northern Kentucky University in a outstanding high school doubleheader with CovCath Vs. Dixie at 6:30 pm and Newport Central Catholic Vs. Holmes to follow right after the first game.

 

CovCath JV won their pre championship game Vs. Cooper but both teams will be back on the hardwood on Monday night at CovCath playing for the JV Championship with the tip-off coming at 6pm

 

In the battle both of cheer sections both schools represented themselves very well and left it all in the stands as much as the players played hard and left it on the floo.
