I think many such as VOR don't understand is the fact no one is saying or claiming on here it is a conspiracy or anything like that. Sully says it went In From his point of view 50 feet away while CCH fans who were much closer said it didn't go in, yet we have a video shown on a 2 inch screen where the ball isn't even visible once it reaches the net/rim has those who weren't even there calling eyewitnesses basically stupid or ignorant, yet even those who were there on differing sides are able to be more neutral than those that weren't there speaks volumes to me.

 

If Sully said he didn't think it went in would matter to those that think it did go in? No, I don't think it would change one persons opinion who was there and witnessed it first hand. As was already said on here, would love to see the video in an actual monitor where you can actually see the ball period instead on a 2 inch screen where the video clearly doesn't show proof one way or the other. Either way the only proof that could ever be shown would be a picture from the side where you can see the ball either inside the cylinder or under the rim. Only one angle from where the shot was made from can show that proof and that is a side shot even with the basket which just so happens to be the same perspective those who saw it go under the rim were watching from.

 

You really had to be there to understand the angle. VOR clearly wasn't so his opinion on the entire thing means absolutely squat to me.

 

 

NKU, do you happen to remember a baseball game last year at Dixie against CCH where a homerun was called even though some claimed it was a foul ball? Do you remember what was said in that debate and the differing opinions depended on where people were sitting due to the angle? This is a very similar thing.

 

My point about Sully saying it went in is I'm assuming he watched the actual game film on a larger screen than the 2 inch screen video that we are seeing here on BGP. I know we haven't seen that video but a coach who watched it presumably on a larger tv and in better quality is saying it went in. The same coach who would have been wronged by a missed call.

 

I realize you are saying that you want to see that better quality, larger video but unless you stop up to the school, I'm not sure that will happen. Heck I would like to see it too.

 

And as for the DH/CCH baseball last year, in reading the thread and talking to people who were there (as I was down the road at CCH) I don't remember anyone saying they saw it hit the yellow pole other than the plate umpire and TOG. Everyone else saw it hit the pole that holds up the netting. And those people were in various positions around the complex so there were many angles that saw a foul ball.

 

That situation didn't have a camera rolling like this one did where the Cooper coach saw it and said it went it. So while the two cases are in the same ballpark there are many differences between the two.

 

Time to stir the pot a bit more lol. I was re-watching the video trying and trying to see the ball go in or not, the problem is you see the ball in that video shortly before getting to the basket, then on the video it is not visible and you see the net move etc. Now bear with me here. If you watch that video after the so called "Basket" you will notice 2 things. Watch where you see the Cooper player get the ball, and I believe he caught it before it hit the ground, either way it doesn't matter. What does matter is where he caught it at. Freeze the video as soon as you see him get the ball, what do you notice? He is standing in front, not behind the basket. What else do you notice? The net is pushed back toward the backboard. Now how is it possible the ball comes out front yet the net is still pushed back? The only way that is possible is if the ball "hits" the net and pushes it backwards, not goes through the net unless there was a hole big enough to fit the ball through on the front side of the net.

 

Hey this is all in fun, don't burn me too much, but it is interesting how the ball is in front yet he net is facing back. Watch the video closely, you never see the net go back and then front and then back again, it goes back and then straightens out so how can the ball be in front of the basket when he rebounds it? Just sayin

 

As I posted earlier in this thread, it appears to me that the net in the video goes up like it does on a made shot. Clyde I think is seeing the same thing. I watched the video about 10 more times this morning in 1/2 speed and still believe the net goes up.

 

For a ball to hit the net then hit the bottom of the backboard like you and some others feel it did to make it come out front of the basket, it would have to come in at a pretty flat angle which the "lob" did not. The angle the ball was coming in at would not allow it to hit the bottom of the backboard and unless the net is made of some extremely strong fibers, it would not push a ball backwards upon contact.

 

(I knew paying attention in math class and learning about angles would come in useful some day, just didn't think it would be in this situation.)

Thanks to the CovCath Coaches, I watched the Ruthsatz film today in the Coaches office on a rather big screen TV. It was as I said good!

I spoke with Colin Hathorn yesterday who was the player under the basket and he said it went in.

Earlier this season, a very interesting play during a high school boys’ game made the rounds on YouTube. A player in his own frontcourt saved a pass from going out of bounds near the corner of the sideline and endline beyond the three-point line.

 

Count it? Two points? Three points? Plays like the aforementioned don't happen often, but when they do, officials have to be ready

to make the proper ruling in an instant. That situation comes down to the basics of defining a try.

 

NFHS Rule 4-41-2 says, “A try for field goal is an attempt by

a player to score two or three points by throwing the ball into a team’s own basket. A player is trying for goal when the player has the ball and in the official's judgment is throwing or attempting to throw a goal. It is not essential that the ball leave the player's hand as a foul could prevent release of the ball.

 

Under that rule, there is no way that the player was attempting a try for a goal. He made a great effort to keep the ball in play,

but should only be awarded two points, not three, for the ball going into the basket. For those who contend that he should get three points, think of it this way: What if that player was fouled by an opponent as he was trying to save the ball? In a non-bonus situation, does that player deserve to be awarded three free throws? Nope.

 

A great play indeed in that video and the player’s team should be credited with something, but two points. By rule, it was not a legitimate try for a field goal.
