9th Region vs 10th Region

Recommended Posts

I am retively new to BGP, but can't help but notice 10th region Teams seem to boast about being the better Region for Fastpitch Softball! Obviously with my daughter playing at a school (who is still a wannabee) in the 9th Region! They wannabee mentioned in those discussions or more importantly wannabee competative with those top 4 teams in the region! When I look at (IMO) the TOP teams in the 9th Region its the (3)Ryle, (4)Boone County, (1)Conner and (2)Notre Dame! How does the 10th Region match up with those TOP 4? Obviously I think the middle of the pack of the 9th Region is very competative (Newport Catholic, Highlands, Dixie, St. Henry, Holy Cross, Cooper, Newport, there are others just naming these off top of my head) so how does the middle of the road teams compare with the 10th region middle of the road teams?

It didn't help that Campbell Co. was the last county in the state to go strickly fastpitch and it was only 7 years ago.

Overall I think it's close but this year the Tenth Region from top to bottom is stronger than the 9th. The Ninth has better overall pitching but the tenth hitting is better and the number of top teams may be deeper. A good test might be the Pete Noll Classic of course there will be 10 Ninth Region Teams and only Four 10th Region teams. Lets see how Bracken Co., Bishop Brossart, Nicholas Co., and Campbell Co. fare with the Ninth. Not all the teams are in it but Conner, Boone Co. , Notre Dame and several of the top 9th Region teams are. I think realistically in the 10th Region 9-10 Teams are in contention where in the 9th probably more like 4 or 5 for the Region Championship.

"but the tenth hitting is better" Depends on who is keeping the book???

Now thats funny. Also, my experience tells me good pitching neutralizes good hitting...in baseball and fastpitch softball. Pitching is a much bigger part of the game in fastpitch softball. 10th hitting may be better, but wouldn't you expect it to be better against weaker overall pitching (that bgh admits)? if you are facing great pitchers every day, naturally your "hitting" will take a hit.

But i'm with ya bgh, we'll get to see what wins out early on this year! My predictions are the top 9th teams will win the majority of the matchups with the 10th because the top teams pitching is so good and they can hit a little bit!!!!!

Defense is the key. Pitching is certainly part of that, but you have to field the ball. Give a team more than 3 outs and they score 9 times out of 10 it seems. 9th region defense has been sketchy. Ryle has played the best D and that is why they have won. They haven't had the best pitching (or not so much better than everyone else, ie Boone, Conner St Henry, etc to mke the difference) Their lineup wasn't any better. They fielded the ball better. Give me 9 who can play good D and I would take my chances.

I still think it would be a fun weekend of softball to have a 9th vs 10th tournament. I brought this up in a thread last year to try & do this early in the year. It would take someone to get it organized of course but just think of some of the matchups you could have . I do think the 10th is very deep this year. In the years past you had Montgomery & Clark and then everyone else . But now I think there's 7 teams that could win the region this year. If I had to pick the favorite it would probably be Bourbon or Harrison and the other five not far behind. As far as the 9th you have to put Ryle on top until someone else wins that region and there are probably 3 teams behind them ( Conner, ND & Boone ) Of course this is JMO !

Does the 9th really have that much better pitching than the 10? There are a couple nice pitchers in the 9th but as a whole I wouldn't think the group is that strong.

I would agree with you on the pitching. The 10th has some pretty good pitchers also !
