Competitive? Yes. Trimble has a great chance to advance in the district and make a regional tournament and given a good draw could even win some games. Do I think they have a realistic shot at winning the region? Probably not. And it certainly wouldn't be surprising if they lost in the first round of their district (because South and Oldham are both quality opponents). Winning the All-A would be huge for Trimble. I dont know the history, but I know at least in recent years they haven't won the All A in the 8th for a while. This tournament is for the Trimble Countys. They have a really nice team, and while they are probably still a long shot to upset a Simon Kenton or Anderson County in the regional tournament they have a great shot in the All-A. I still don't have a huge problem with this score. Could it have been kept closer? Probably. But it also probably could have been 200-5 had Trimble wanted it to be. I think it's hard to pass judgement without actually seeing how the game played out. As long as Trimble isn't pressing or trapping and is playing their weaker players heavy minutes I think they are doing their part. They could have done more (as it's been stated above) but I dont think they are morally obligated to do so, and I dont think them choosing to play it the way they did speaks poorly on their character.

The general rule for a game like this is that the superior team doesn't press or run an aggressive half court defense/trap against the lesser team. I have no problem with Trimble coming out and pressing in this game, especially if that's how they normally play. It sounds like they took the press off as soon as the score ballooned up. It also seems like the bench played extensive minutes as well. You can tell your kids to walk it up and pass it 10+ times before they shoot if you want, but I dont think you have to do that. That can sometimes look just as bad or even worse then just letting the kids play out. If you have your weakest kids in the game and aren't pressing and trapping and they STILL are extending the lead, then so be it. Eminence is bad you all. Really really bad. The real question here is why are they playing in this game? If your team is that bad, opt out of this tournament...don't play a varsity schedule....try and put your kids in positions they can be successful. I think the real problem isn't the score of this game, it's the fact that Eminence is even playing in it.

The All-A is not sanctioned by the KHSAA and they don't recognize the winner as a state champion. The KHSAA crowns one state champion at the end of the year. I am not taking away from the winner of the All-A, as I know its very important to a lot of teams...but it's not like the KHSAA has a state tournament for "only the A schools" and then allows them to compete in the statewide tournament as well.

I say this every year but these are not someones opinion. These rankings are based on a mathematical formula using scores of games. Actually, I dont think that Cantrall uses out of state scores, but I could be wrong. Is there glaring issues? Of course! This is a formula that spits out a number for each team. This just gives you an idea of who the better teams are. I wouldn't get too caught up in the slot by slot rankings....but I guess it is kind of fun to debate.

I think it's fair to say that most of the top players in Kentucky play for Kentucky Premier....and it seems like that ones that play other places when they are younger, end up switching over by the time they are older.

agreed. It looks like next years sweet 16 will be much more wide open. Had marion not been in this tournament, I think 7 or 8 different teams would have had a legitimate shot at winning it all. I think that's what you'll see next year, making for a really exciting sweet 16.

Seriously? They were 34-2 and beat half a dozen "top 10" teams. They were ranked 2nd in the LIT ratings and the AP poll basically the entire year. were they untouchable? absolutely not. They played several close games and even got beat by a marginal opponent in Bryan Station. But they were clearly deserving of the #2 ranking given their schedule, record, and margin of victory.

in fairness to the officials, I felt this game (the SO/Collins game) was the only game horribly officiated in the whole tournament (although I thought the SO/Collins game was probably the WORST I had seen all year).

And Anderson beat that same E-Town team by double figures. Not saying they would beat Marion, but they would probably stand a better chance at staying with Marion then E-Town. But I dont think anybody should "put the cart before the horse" so to speak. I expect Simon and Anderson to be a CLOSE game. Either team could win it.

by that logic the pre-season regional favorite could NEVER win COY. You can say you expected them to be at the top of the region but hard to say they didn't exceed expectations going 27-1.

I wont argue that Coach Howell wasn't deserving because gallatin has had a tremendous season and probably even exceeded expectations....but what does kays have to do to get the award? His team wasn't even a unanimous pick as pre-season regional favorites....in fact I would say the majority felt Walton had the best team...with Anderson and Simon both really close behind. My point is just that Anderson, even while extremely talented, exceeded expectations to the tune of a one loss regular season with several wins against some of the best competition the state has to offer. If my memory serves me correct, Kays has never won the award...and after this season you just have to wonder if there are other reasons why he doesn't receive votes and others do. Knowing coach Kays, he probably doesn't even care. In fact any coach worth his/her salt would trade all the awards for a regional title. I know he was more happy for his two players at the top of the list then he would have been for himself being named COY.

Only one team in the state looks like a "lock" to get out of their region, and that's Marion County. Im not sure anybody in the state can give them a game, but if anybody can no reason not to think Anderson has as good a shot as any.

You seem to be very knowledgeable of Anderson opponents... I won't go through every single game but I do know that Manual was done a couple of kids and Dunbar was without the same guard that has yet to play a single game this season. As far as I know every other opponent was at full strength. But as long as we are making excuses I guess we could add the a key reserve for AC missed significant time and a projected starter at the beginning of the season has yet to play a single game. I do agree with your point that early season basketball often times can be overvalued...especially holiday tournaments with so many games in such a short amount of time. However, when evaluating where teams currently stand in regards to region and state rankings this is all we have to go on. Your opinion that Anderson is not as good as the results may suggest is fine. I don't think Notre Dame is the best college football team in the country, but I cant argue with their past results that have put them in a position to be ranked so highly. Anderson is ranked where they are because they have beaten/demolished several quality opponents. The same can be said of most of those top teams on the list. However, there are still several games to be played and I'm sure we'll see different teams go up and down as the season moves on. These mathematical formulas have a way of becoming more and more accurate the more data they have to go off of. The nice thing about sports is that most of the time it is decided on the playing field....these computer rankings just give us something to talk about until the actual games are played.

Unlike your personal rankings there is no bias towards one team or another. It is simply a mathematical formula used to sort teams. As far as anderson is concerned, they have 20 point+ victories over dunbar, butler, manual, Lex cath, and franklin co as well as a pair of 10 pt victories over lincoln and etown. Its pretty easy to see why any rankings system would have them that high. Does that mean anderson is a sure fire lock to win the 8th? Certainly not. But even a biased observer such as yourself would have a hard time.arguing that there is anyone that has a better pre january resume in the 8th then AC.
