Anderson is playing #1 Marion County in Rupp Arena on Saturday in the KBA preseason Showcase

Anderson/Oldham have a big early season game in a few weeks. Looks like we'll get to see how some of these teams measure up pretty soon!

Anderson County beat Ryle 61-54

Expectations are much different in Anderson County this year. Nobody knew how the young kids would respond being pressed into action so early, and obviously they found a way to keep it together through a tough schedule and put together a nice run at the end. Summer games are completely useless as far as wins and losses go. Last summer South Oldham beat Anderson by over 30. I really wouldn't put much stock in how specific teams did in terms of winning and losing this summer. What you can see is the progression of certain players. For example, Gayheart looked outstanding the few times I saw her play this summer. Anderson County is still projected to start THREE freshman this year. That's truly unbelievable when you consider the fact that two of those freshman are considered "veterans" after both playing as 7th graders and starting as 8th. I just don't know that you will see a team starting two 8th graders come out of the 8th region ever again.

Records of opponents can be very deceptive.

Walton has every reason to be optimistic, but their fans aren't making any friends by constantly reminding everybody of it. I think most people are just ready to quit talking and start playing the games.

I think what makes it so hard to evaluate Walton and why you see such wide range of opinions is because of who they play. Walton needs to play the TOP teams in northern kentucky...Boone, Ryle etc and then play the TOP teams from their region (South Oldham, Anderson, Simon Kenton, ML Collins etc). I think Walton is a good team, and certainly a legit threat to win the 8th this year...but I can see why some would question them.

No, it just makes it hard to compare between players. It's why it's hard to take numbers into consideration. The best way to evaluate individual players is over the summer on the AAU circuits when the competition level is always high. That's one reason that's where you see college coaches, as opposed to high school games. But that's sort of getting off track. Comparing players in the 8th region is almost an impossible task. I was just pointing out that nobody should get there panties in a wad over some list posted by somebody that has probably never seen half the team in the 8th region play even 1 game.

Individual player rankings are generally just not very good. It's so hard to compare girls across region who play on varying levels of teams. I dont want to talk about specific girls on this list, just overall hard to compare a player playing on a really good team who plays top state level competition game in and game out to one who plays on a lesser team against lesser competition. Numbers really have little impact in the discussion IMO. I wouldn't get too wrapped up in the way anybody ranks individual kids across the region...it varies EXTREMELY depending on who you ask. Now the teams, Walton is waaay too low. Anderson/Walton/South are probably the three to watch early on. I would give Owen a shot in there well, and of course you can never discount Simon Kenton. Shelby has no business on this list from what I understand. They lost just about every kid. Usually Cats Pause is truly awful with their girls previews and this year is no different.

I predict the Lady Bearcats will win the region.

I may be a little partial, but it's hard not to say Anderson is the favorite going into things.

Looks a little bit tougher then a season ago. They added some nice teams (Boone, NCC, Scott) and didn't lose very many quality opponents outside of Conner. Coach Miller is hampered somewhat by the All-A and the Conference they play in, but it looks like Walton made an effort to beef up their schedule.

Waltons schedule was just not very strong a season ago. They obviously have a nice group of talented young ladies, Hopefully they have significantly beefed up their schedule. If not, that could really hurt them come tournament time.

That is not true. Anderson has tried to play more 8th region schools for years and nobody wants to play them.

For the record, anderson was missing their starting pg and head coach. But fun matchup in june either way.

Im sure Marion is the overwhelming favorite but with so many quality top 25 teams anything can happen! Should be some great games this weekend.

South returns a lot of kids off a preseason favorite team last season. I would guess that most in South Oldham were disappointed with the way things went considering the high expectations put on them. This season there doesn't seem to be as much talk surrounding them, even though most of those same players return a year more experienced. Perhaps without the lofty expectations, South can rediscover the talent that led most to believe they would represent the 8th region in Bowling Green a season ago.

A lot of Waltons kids are playing this summer. After last season, I think most consider them a favorite in the district and a top contender for the region.

Jody Hellard has been hired at Western Hills. He was the former coach at Frankfort. This whole process at western hills has been a crazy one with people accepting the job and then deciding to stay put....crazy. Hills got a good coach and he will do a great job with that program!
