8th Region 2010-2011 CJ Preview

Featured Replies

A little surprised at the lack of respect for Owen County... :/

Didn't see the rankings in your link....Owen actually ranked fifth by the coaches in the C-J poll:

1 - Anderson

2 - Walton-Verona

3 - South Oldham

4 - Simon Kenton

5 - Owen County

6 - Collins

7 - Oldham County

Looks about right for a pre-season poll, although there could be a lot of movement from 2-7.... each of those teams has at least one burning question that must be answered in order to challenge for the crown...

Should be fun.

Anderson/Oldham have a big early season game in a few weeks. Looks like we'll get to see how some of these teams measure up pretty soon!

I just saw Henry County beat Oldham County on Saturday in a scrimmage so watch out for the Lady Wildcats.

Anderson is playing #1 Marion County in Rupp Arena on Saturday in the KBA preseason Showcase

Wainscott not even listed as a player to watch? I guess that's the price you pay when you are 50 plus miles from the center of your region.

Not surprised that Wainscott, Dixon, Gayheart, Wilhoit and others from the Northern Kentucky section are left out. The CJ doesn't have a clue about the players outside their vicinity.

to be fair, all of the better teams and players are listed in the rankings for the 8th region regardless of geographic location. The article is probably written more towards those in the Courier circulation area.

Amen!!!

Anderson might set many offensive records against Oldham. It will be a long year for Oldham fans.

Anderson County, Walton-Verona, and South Oldham will be the class of the 8th Region. The rest you can put in a hat, shake em up, and start picking names. Quite frankly, Owen County might not be the best in the 31st District.

I agree with the 3 you have, but I would def. add Owen and Collins. I could be wrong, but I'm not sure they will be challenged in the 31st.

South Oldham took a pretty good beating against Boone Co. this weekend. Unsure if they are worthy of their ranking right now. I look for them to get it turned around prior to the start of the season.

Owen may very well win the 31st, they may not. But to say they won't be challenged is probably a wrong assumption. The 31st will be very competitive I assure you. Henry and Gallatin both defeated Owen last season, with Gallatin returning everyone and have improved their depth. Owen has zero, I repeat zero depth in any form. Would not shock me if any of the four win the 31st. Can't leave out Coach Mefford and Carroll County, they always seem to find a way to the 8th Region Tournment. At this point, Owen is the favorite, but by no means are they clear cut. All four coaches know their way around pretty well and will pull out all the stops to one up each other. If I may politely say so, you show your lack of knowledge regarding the 31st District.
