8th Region 2010-2011 CJ Preview

Featured Replies

South Oldham took a pretty good beating against Boone Co. this weekend. Unsure if they are worthy of their ranking right now. I look for them to get it turned around prior to the start of the season.
Ok, fine. Still gonna be W-V and Anderson vying for the 8th crown IMO.
Not surprised that Wainscott, Dixon, Gayheart, Wilhoit and others from the Northern Kentucky section are left out. The CJ doesn't have a clue about the players outside their vicinity.

Folks, you need to at least read the paper. All of these girls ARE mentioned in the Courier's list of top players in their preseason preview. The accompanying article, however, is strictly written for the locals, and in the 8th, it focuses on the Oldham, Shelby, and Spencer teams and their players.

Correct, CM. The northern contingent has taken offense when the same thing occurs when the NKY-Enquirer does similar things. The bottom line is that newpapers are in business to sell newspapers, which means doing some - very understandable - regional catering to its circulation area. No reason for anyone to take offense, IMO. How many minutes until the opening tip-off? The natives are gettting restless!

Didn't Wilhoit graduate?

First of all, let's put pre-season scrimmages in perspective. South lost the 1st quarter of this scrimmage by 23+ points and most of their points were by Sydney Moss in the 1st quarter. But South made adjustments and either won or played even, quarters 2, 3, and 4. South, as well as Boone County, did a lot of substituting--as most Coaches are using pre-season scrimmages to see where the team is as a whole and to practice plays. There were players getting significant minutes that will probably not play more that a minute in an actual game. So to make a comment from a scrimmage you did not see is useless. It was a competitive scrimmage with the exception of the first quarter. Sydney Moss is an exceptional player and most players would need some time to figure out how to play against her. She is very strong and counld finish baskets even when she was fouled hard.

I find it interesting that Eriel Mckee was not listed in the top 10 players...was a coaches poll though and hard to put 3 kids from Anderson in I suppose.

She is one of the top 10 players in the region without a doubt. If the reason is they didn't want three kids from Anderson on it, well personally I think that is wrong (you should vote for the top 10 players)

Mckee and Cann both really improved over the summer playing with Kentucky Premier on the top of the summer circuits. It will be interesting to see how they (as well as the rest of the young Anderson squad) progress through the season. The team as a whole looked very solid in their opening scrimmage against Ryle.

No, she is a senior.

Agreed.

I think there will be some surprises this year in the 8th. Both Walton-Verona and Oldham County have picked up some quality transfers that may dramatically impact their fortunes. South is junior-laden, but the most veteran squad in the mix. Collins has a solid team that may have a breakout year this season. Anderson has all the pieces.

I still say Anderson is definitely the favorite - but I think this season will be very interesting, indeed.
