Greenup Co 2008/2009
Maybe it should split into 2 schools....."the two Musketeers" and "South Shore High"....Just kidding

Greenup Co 2008/2009
I think coach Fraley will do a great job at Greenup County no matter what came into play in the schools decision to hire him as the new head coach but I think the school system at Greenup as a whole needs to stand behind the coaches decisions and not let politics interfere.

Will Highlands ever get a new stadium?
Just a funny story I wanted to share. For some of you old timers Russell Red Devils and Fort Thomas use to play a few games back in the 70's. My family and I stopped at a gas station to get directions to the stadium. I remember my dad asking "Which way to the stadium?" and the old man looked at him and said "sir...just listen for the cannon boom and head that direction". haha It was a good game....I was young...dont know who won...I was in the top of the stands and the cold wind was cutting right thru me. All I wanted to do is go home. haha

Greenup Co 2008/2009
As stated above someplace "South Shore vs rest of the county issues". I also believe it is an issue at Greenup County. Not a major issue but still an issue. (whew...thats alot of issues) It always has been since the early 80's. I think Greenup will do good this year then hit the floor running in 2 years. Greenup has alot of young talent coming up from Trey williams(who can score from anywhere) The Justice boy and 2 freshmen who should see a lil playing time Dustin Linthicum and Tanner Willis(back from Raceland). I see these young kids playing alot of tournament play in their careers. Left a couple other kids out only because I dont remember their names off hand.

Ashland to honor 58 State Champs
My grandpa plyed on the 1930,31,and 1932 teams and used to tell me countless tales of how Ashland dominted everyone they played.

The Independent's Super 7
I think the Newspaper had it pretty good but then again....it's hard to go by the first week. Not much to compare to.

Russell 49 Greenup County 13
I know sometimes McGlone will grind out the clock when ahead but other times he will use the rest of the game as a practice. Trying plays and testing recievers. I did see alot of clean jersey in also.

Raceland 19 Ashland 16 OT
Didn't hear anything about the game other than the score but to get down on yourself for letting Raceland beat you is silly in my book. A..AA...AAA...etc Doesnt matter in Racelands eyes and thats how it should be. Throw all the classes out the window and just play good hard football. Raceland has a good team and they are gonna let you know it no matter what class you are in. Congrats to Raceland and for the Tomcats...hold your head up and go hard next friday.

Russell 49 Greenup County 13
Way to go Russell. Awesome crowd for this game also on both sides. I think when the community comes out and watches games like this...everybody wins. Kudos for all the great food also. Greenup grilled hamburgers and the cooks looked like they were working very hard.

Russell/Greenup Co. Predictions
I think Russell will start off slow. Never seen a Russel 1st game without alot of cramping. I think the Red Devils will put Greenup away in the second half. I say Russell by 10. Ivan would never run up a scored even if he could.

Raceland/Ashland Predictions
Not to disrespect Ashland, but I say Raceland by 2 TD's.

Tobacco products at Russell
My wife is a teacher in the school system and that is what she has heard. She said it was a new state law, but I couldnt find anything about it when I googled it. I cannot see how they can police a thing like that.
-
Tobacco products at Russell
Not 100% comfirmed but I hear that this year there will be no tobacco products allowed in the stadium. I think the big change this year adds smokeless tobacco such as "snuff". Anyone else hear this?

What schools refuse to play other schools?
I am a Russel fan here and even though it's hard to swallow at times, I would rather Russell lose to Raceland and Fairview and get better than to blow out a 4A or 5A school. Yea it's rough at the water cooler the next morning at work but I believe Raceland or Fairview can help Russell or teams similar in their quest for a trip to the pizza box. The only time I think it may not help is if one team runs a totally different offense than one you might see down the road. I think we shouldn't underestimate all the talent in the area and we should all benefit from it. Most all of us are in different classes so wouldnt it be awesome if we all were driving down to Louisville at the end of the year.

Euton/Jackson Appeals
I say let them play. I bet 10 yrs from now there will be a thread about some young stud from lexington coming to Rose Hill to play football because his dad got transfered to AK Steel or Marathon. Well...maybe not, but it sounded good.

2008 Greenup County
Haven't seen alot posted on this thread for awhile so I thought I would spark it back to life. May be off the subject a tad but still routes back to Greenup Football. How is the theater program coming along with your youngest players. Thus meaning McKell, Greysbranch, Wurtland ect.... I think having a good program for the youth really helps a high school program. I know at Russell we started flag the last 10 yrs or so because we were losing so many kids to soccer. But without soccer where would we get a kicker...LOL I know McKell always used to do well. Going "Old School" one coach I learned the most from was a Coach Nobel from down from Mckell. Taught me how to read backs at an early age. My wife is from Greenup and she said that Greenup losses alot of their kids to the farms they have to help work when school is over. Greenup has loads of talent...it just might be hard to reach some of them because of their lack of time.

What's the one thing you want to see from the 2008 season?
Feel guilty about it but I agree with you on this one.
-
Who said it for a premium prize?
Might not be the right answer, but when I played he did say that an awful lot.:fire:

Strap'em on and buckle up your chinstrap!!
To me basketball and baseball are just hobbies you do while waiting for FOOTBALL.

Raceland 2008/2009
I know alot of kids have transfered to Raceland from area schools notiably the frosh. class so hopefully that will keep the program strong.

2008 Greenup County
I am a Red Devil fan to its fullest extent, but I must agree with Coupon21. Too many kids are going to nearby schools because they are not satisfied with their own athletics at the school closest to them. Its hard to keep a good team when your players are switching to teams like Raceland and Russell and Ashland. A few I know have left for playing time and a few I know left because of politics in the athletic system. Sammons does a great job and when he started calling the plays from above the win/loss ratio only improved. We are all in different classes (A,AA.AAA..etc) so we shouldn't dog each other so much and start pulling for each other.

Down and Dirty at K.C.U
Wish they had that lineman camp when I was in school. I was a 5'9" 178lb offensive guard. LOL I could have made a good blocking dummy possibly.

Russell 2008/2009
Let the players gel and get used to working with one another and it should fall into place.

2008 Belfry
Belfry reminds me alot of Russell. No matter who graduates...there is always a young hungry stud to take their place. Red Devil fan here, but my hat goes off to Belfry and the awesome program they have. No matter who wins we all make the state of Kentucky proud.
