  1. :ohbrother: Ok, so after thinking about it briefly this is how it is.... The treatment of officials on BG Preps has deterioirated over the last year. If ANYONE wants to become an official, please let me know and I'll personally work with you to register for next season. For the rest, please try to understand the following (for MOST officials): Most refs: 1) want to see players and teams play their best game every night. 2) couldn't care less about who wins. 3) routinely attend games they are not working in an effort to better themselves. Most also look at the schedule and pick the best game to go to, not a specific team. 4) attend training and summer camps in an effort to better themselves. 5) spend countless hours actually reading the rules (yes I know you may not agree). 6) talk to each other about specific situations, to better understand how and why the rules are what they are. 7) spend time with younger (tenured) officials to help them get better. 8) make less money working a Varsity game than they could in a lesser gym on any given night. Thanks :isurrender:
  2. You couldn't be more right:thumb:!!! If you want to see the incredible performance out of a three man crew that you see from the two man system, it has to be practiced the entire season. Also, if you want the fans and players to get used to how the game is called, they need the added experience as well. This starts not only with Varsity games, but also with the upper half of JV. As far as "missed calls" and "waiting to see what happens", I think you need to look for consistency throughout the game. Perhaps what is perceived as missed in a three man system would not have been called anyway or would have been called erroneously in a two. Another key are the GI's (Game Interruptors). A wide reaching movement is coming down the pike to eliminate these fouls where the player fouled did not lose his or her advantage.
  3. I'd like to think that Holmes' talent will raise the bar for other 9th schools. Look for all the play to get that much better...
  4. Kudos Mike!!! Take this one back to the thread on qaulities you want in a coach ...
  5. There is a problem here -- schools that DROP FROM VARSITY because they feel they cannot be competitive should be penalized by making it a multiple year commitment.
  6. I'm not looking for a lot out of Newport this year. When you play the same core Freshman on Frosh., JV & the significant minutes on Varsity you cannot expect to win many at all. A school this size should be able to field a more competitive team.
  7. I have a problem with home schooled kids playing on school teams. However, I would not have a problem having a legitimate team of ALL HOME SCHOOLED KIDS be allowed compete.
  8. If I couldn't get Faust from St Henry, I'd call Eifert from Holy Cross out of retirement.
  9. Sounds like the 8th will be more fun to watch than the 9th -- may have to go south
  10. HHS in a close one -- but it would be a shot in the arm for BW to pull it out... Foul touble may be the deciding factor BW has to stay out and needs HHS to commit a few key stupid ones.
  11. OK, so I thought about it awhile and yes, I know I'm replying to my own last comment.:argue::confused: Any fan, coach, player, or anyone else that has the audacity to step out either here or anywhere else and openly criticize officials the way this thread started is way out of line. This is why the NCAA, MLB, NFL etc has banned coaches from making such comments. The only way to acheive Varsity status in the KHSAA is thru COACHES' VOTE. This was the way former Asst Commisioner Boucher wanted it. Then, even if an official gets a Varsity schedule, each coach can scratch 10% of the Varsity stable in his region. If there are problems with a certain official, that is the means of not seeing him. As for the rest of the troubled masses, come on out and work a few games. Try working three four or five nights a week to get better, to get to that Varsity level. OK so you don't want the hassle, either becouse you're skin is too thin or you can't handle the physical side or more innocently you dont have the time... Come on out to one of the non-KHSAA forums, for example KBA, SOAS (in nky) or anywhere that has multiple floors using a mixture of officials. Then try real hard its not tha difficult) to pick out the refs that 1.know the rules, 2. work hard to better themselves in each game and 3. try to help their fellow officials. When you look, I think you'd be amazed at the quality you do get VS what is really out there... :thumb:
  12. :fire: If you're looking a these two as a problem, you need to look again.
  13. This is part of the problem (s) that we discussed in the Girls' forum on "Open Practices". Obviously, coach has an uphill road ahead bu IMO the politics that he's facing now may be the biggest obstacle...
  14. Good to see a turn around from Latonia, but would still like to see about 64ppg.
  15. Any other information? I'm always interested when teams get a multi-year goto girl and then lose her... looks like Fukes may have had too many eggs in one basket
  16. Good comeback for Crittenden, only really ugly misses were with the bad left hand... The question will be - with this being the third injury to that hand in the last three years, will she be able to stay healthy and help next year. Both schools had their moments and the rematch woll be a toss up --
  17. What is the problem with HC? I saw them earlier this year and they pleyed pretty well, if not all over the place, at least pretty well.
  18. You'd be amazed at the number of officials (specifically repeat Sweet 16 appointees) that went to the class solely because of watching officials at their kids games. Then again, you can pick out the officials that are there with their own agenda and it's the worst thing you've ever seen. Don't forget the guys and gals that put in ther time, do their best to stay in top shape, and go out there every night to get the job done... :thumb:
  19. I wouldn't have called it this way but that's why HS sports are great -- on any given day and everyone gets a tournament bid and a chance
  20. Not surprizing may be the understatement of yesterday.... Talked to Coach S and he is really happy with what the boys in red are doing...
  21. This is way over the top -- the "inconsitencies" that occur from region to region are no different than from conference to conference at the college level. Sure, it would be great to have a bunch of clones running around with everything exactly the same, but thats not what we have. You shouldn't complian that the Big East doesn't call things the same as the Pac10. That is why you don't see conference officials working their own conferences in the tournament and you will never see a 9th Region official working Holmes at Rupp. Officials try to call it as consistantly as possible and even talk this in the pregame. I know that when I played, and whenever I hear from coaches, the talk was (is) to adapt to the way a game is being called. If a ref is going to let the big men beat it out of each other, you need to be prepared to do it. On the other hand, if it's going to be a ballet night you should be ready for that too. This is part of the advantage / disadvantage game. With 2 guys 6'4, 220lbs you can let them bump around without one gaining an unfair advantage. However when one of them weighs a modest 175, that same bump can gain a huge advantage. As I climb off of the almighty soapbox, I can only add "GET OVER IT ".:argue::argue::argue::argue:
  22. It is my understanding that the KHSAA eligibility rules do not apply until the student is in the ninth grade. However, the age requirement does-- the only exception is if a student is held back in the k, 1, 2, or 3rd grade with a certain action plan (I think its an LD action plan) then an exception can be granted to the 19 by sept 1 rule.
