  1. I hate to see any more teams move out of the ninth -- The disappearance of Scott, Simon, Campbell and Brossart has already hurt the feeling enough.. I will however concede that as a shift occurs, things will have to be done.
  2. Congrats on this one, I'm sure Asst Coach Griffith is grinning like the Chesire Cat.
  3. I saw Newport earlier this week and to only come away from that game with a two point victory.... well, it may as well be a loss. Beechwood was their highest margin of victory and it was ONLY 9. (Beechwood's average margin of loss is 21.) I'll finish with this point. For the last several years, Coach has relied on her very tall center. My perception is that the extra attention attributed, while I'm not saying is was not well spent, has detracted form other aspects of the ballclub that she now needs.
  4. Not sure about the sentiment in this thread - seems awful hostile... Any irony that NCC rolled over Bellevue as well? It seems a trend... Looking at their record, and the relatively slim margin of victory over three pretty awful programs (5.33ppg) and average margin of loss (36.5ppg) against programs that, while good, still haven't made it far in awhile; it makes you question if it does the Regional tournament any good to get Bellevue. This is why the KHSAA is trying to eliminate 3 team districts. Once all districts have four or more schools, look for MANDATORY seeding.
  5. Still haven't seen a game there this year -- is NDA a lock?
  6. Is anyone really surprized by this one? I think Coach Dawn could have won with with only four on the floor.
  7. Look at Newport and Dayton this year -- the ENTIRE Freshman team plays JV, all the JV sit Varsity with 4-5 of the Freshman getting significant minutes. There is a HUGE PROBLEM with the school and/or system when this happens...
  8. Back in the day, I've gone through many practices -- both open and closed. I've dodged chairs and insults all the same. I'll only add this -- If a coach NEEDS to be supervised during practice, he/she shouldn't be coaching.
  9. You'd be surprized the difference adding football makes. It takes a lot of concentration off basketball, especially at the small schools. Look for them to rebound in 3-4 years after the students get used to being two sporters.:thumb:
  10. The KHSAA is on a big push to eliminate three school districts in all sports. I'm not sure of the specifics, but don't be surprized to see a school be added from a neighboring region to fill out the structure. The reasoning behind it goes to District Tournament play. The state wants to eliminate an automatic bid to the Regional Tournament by either the draw or #1 seed.
  11. FYI a little information on enrollment numbers from http://www.schoolmatters.com (only public schools were available). Conner 1571 Ryle 1521 Boone 1448 Dixie 1206 Holmes 1153 Highlands 804 Newport 527 Beechwood 466 Dayton 432 Bellevue 378
  12. I agree with this question, a school the size of Dixie, with almost every extra-curricular group (from track to soccer to band to glee-club) busting at the seems has to bring in a middle school player? I can buy Holmes bringing an 8th grader, who attends school on campus. I also have no problem with bringing in exceptional middle schoolers to play Freshman and possible late season JV ball. I have a problem with going out of the building(s) to find help when you have an enrollment the size of the Dixie's.
  13. Not at all. I'm making a genreal statement that if ANY team down 40 leaves their starters in, I can deal with it.
  14. I am talking about the starters being left in this game. I'm just making a differentiation between two different actions and their perceptions... I'm not saying that this happened at this game.
  15. I was not at the game, however I normally do not consider it uncouth to continue to play starters. I do however take exception when the team down 40 decides to press the opposition's thrid string. :irked:
  16. At times, shools will count Varsity points from middleschool students; but you are correct that the 4 years doesn't start until the student reached 9th grade. Conversely, if a player plays varsity as an 8th grader for say, Holy Cross then transferrs to Holmes (or Scott depending on geographics), Holy Cross could not oppose the move. If the player was a Freshman then transferred, H.C. would have an almost insurmountable case. !!!I do not know of situation that has occurred, just using these schools as an example!!! However, consider that at Holmes, 8th grade is part of the High School, falling under the same sets of rules, classes and teachers. Mush the same way at Beechwood, 7TH AND 8TH are part of the high school. Even though the KHSAA's model is of a more traditional k-8/9-12, more schools are strarting HS responsibilities early. If the kids are grouped together for everything else, why not sports?
  17. No, the only lane positions that MUST be occupied are the two lower spots (now the spots adjacent to, just above the blocks) and these MUST be occupied by opponents of the shooter, in otherwords the defensive team. :thumb:
  18. A. Failing to award a merited free throw B. Awarding an unmerited free throw C. Permitting a wrong player to attempt a free throw D. Permitting a player to attempt a free throw at the wrong basket E. Erroneously counting or cancelling a score. The latter two (D&E) are more administrative, therefore not commonly included. These must be caught before the ball goes dead and becomes live again (i.e. a made basket the ball is dead and then is live when at the disposal of the player throwing the ball in). ------------------------------------- For the foul, if the ball is in the hands of the shooter, you cannot call a Technical, because the ball is in play. You can have a common foul or, if warranted, an intentional or flagrant. It depends on what it took to move the player. I've seen many cases where contestants line up wrong and move each other with a little hand on the hip to the right spot. However in your description, if a player forcefully moves another then something should be called.
  19. I meant they all relate to awarding free throws.
  20. This is exactly the correct interpretation of the rule. It is no different than if a team has 6 players on the floor. Officials try everything they can to count after each sub, but if they miss one-- the responsibility is on the player(s). Otherwise we'd just stop and get the player off the floor. With the free throw situation, we do not have sufficient information to determine if or what kind of a foul should have or should not have been called. Obviously the defensive player is at fault for not occupying the lower lane space, and this is an item that has happened over and over this year as they've moved up the lane. :madman:As much as I hate to say it, Madman is correct. There are only three correctable errors and all relate to free throws.
  21. What a difference a couple of years with a new coach makes in Ft Mitchell..... Maybe they'll see that in Park Hills
  22. You play the best you have on Varsity, top 5 or 8 or 10. But if you have a Junior who is not a starter and needs minutes to improve, you might play him on JV as well. There is no comparison between practice minutes and game experience.
  23. Did Shover play?? I heard he's still recovering..
