  1. Word is Rebecca Greenwell's, 8th grader at Owensboro Catholic, family is moving to Louisville next year when her sister starts playing at Bellarmine. Should be real interesting to see where she ends up. Can you imagine if she also ends up there? Watch out rest of the state for the next four years. We could be talking four or five titles in a row.
  2. As Cawood would say, "hold the phone." Anyone that knows the 7th region realizes that Friday night's game against Eastern has been the talk around Louisville since the start of Christmas break. JTown was ready for this game and gave everything they had in dominating a very good Eastern team. This was the classic "let-down game" for JTown, and anyone that knows eastern Ky, or even any place east of Shelby Co on I-64, knows that county schools can't wait and are chompin' at the bit to get a chance to play the city schools, especially one like JTown. I'm betting Central has had this game circled on their calendar since week one as a measuring stick. This game may not have even been in JTown's top ten most important on the year. Not taking anything away from Madison Central, it was a GREAT win for them, but let's not throw JTown or the 7th region under the bus for one upset. Again, great win for Madison Central.
  3. Oops, don't know how I got that link. Sorry about the confusion guys. I'll do better next time. haha
  4. So if a kid doesn't play their 8th grade year, fail that year so they repeat 8th grade the next year, they are eligible to play high school sports although they aren't allowed to play for their middle school? That doesn't seem to make sense. I thought once a kid entered 6th grade they were locked in to having one year's eligibility per grade remaining and that's why parents hold kids back in 5th grade and not middle school. Anyone able to clarify this?
  5. Building on this, Iroquois has enjoyed it run of success thanks to the "Fantastic Four" that started off as the "Fantastic Five" when they all started playing for Iroquois while they were all 7th graders at Southern Middle School. These girls are playing, and most are starting, for their 6th year of varsity basketball. I know girl's basketball isn't as physical but this is still a pretty special accomplishment by any athlete.
  6. I think you mean Desmond Dorsey instead of Downey. Daquan Boyd, G, plays big time minutes for Moore and played a lot last year as an 8th grader. He was on the floor at the end of Moore's wins over Male and at PRP. Kid sees the floor as well as anyone in this area since, dare I say it, Rajon Rondo. Having coached Rajon in MS I would say the Boyd is just a little bit under Rajon b.c of Rajon's first step. NO ONE could match Rajon's first step, except maybe JaJuan Spillman of PRP a couple of years ago.
  7. Sorry Engineer, and I love that name as an Estill grad, but you are WAAAY TOO metro area biased. You only have three perhaps four kids on your list that play for schools outside of an urban area. Sorry but I think the rest of the state plays some good baseball, not just the teams and players in the metro areas.
  8. Drew Freeman of Estill Co. has to be on this list. He has committed to UK and hit over .500 last year and I believe I read on here last year he led the state in HR's also. The kid is a legit 6'3", 220, strong as a bull, and left handed hitter and pitcher. Any list without him isn't worth looking at IMO.
  9. I don't know if I'm reading this right or not but want to ask. I know if a kid is in grades 9-12 and they fail a grade they are ineligible the following year while they are repeating that year. The next year, if they pass, they are back to being eligible and still have all their years left to play. BUT if the kid is in 8th grade playing varsity ball, and they fail that year and have to repeat, then they are eligible the repeat year to play varsity ball again? "). Policies regarding the participation of repeating students at the levels of play below high school interscholastic athletics shall be determined by the school council pursuant to KRS 160.345 (2) (i)." Is this what this last part means? That it is up to the individual school to determine the kids eligibility? Just a little confused but if this is true then that's really screwed up. And I agree with alwayswrong and have seen it too many times where a very talented MS athlete is pulled up to varsity, told how great they are, get the big head that any 13 or 14 year old would get, and then quit working and flame out before their senior year. Why isn't the KHSAA doing something about this?
  10. Sorry, try this one. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=SPORTS050402&template=middlecol
  11. Enjoy!!! Looks like Louisville is loaded with talented basketball teams. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=SPORTS050402
  12. Fencerider I sure hope you never coach my kids. A coach is first and foremost a role model for his kids. This is a person the kids, like it or not, look up to in a way they don't look at their parents. He/She needs to remember that whatever sport they are coaching will only be played for a few more years if the kid's lucky. The lesson's the coach teaches his players will last them a lifetime. Now which one is more important, winning a ballgame or winning at life? I'll take my kid winning at life even if it means sacrificing a few wins or a state title and ring.
  13. I agree 100%. Jenkins and Crosby may be getting the pub but I'd take Mosely over any kid I've seen play this year. His ability to elevate above kids much bigger than him is unbelievable. I caught myself busting out in laughter at the Fern Creek game at how he can be in a seemingly impossible situation, surrounded by three or four players, and he will simply outjump them to get his shot off. And he makes them. To be 5'10" or 5'11" and able to touch your elbow on the rim is incredible, and yes I've seen it personally or I wouldn't believe it. And unlike many players in this state he can create his shot against anybody, he doesn't have to be open to shoot. I'll say it again, GO WATCH THIS KID PLAY!!!
  14. He is avg. around 30-32 points a game I believe. Over the break he was defering to his teammates a lot. I think the coaching staff may be trying to get others involved also. You have to be more than one person to do anything come March. He is a special offensive player. I saw where Rick Bolus lists him as the fourth best senior D1 prospect in the state and I'd say this may be selling him short. He can score almost at will; it's fun to watch and almost silly at times. Seems to have his life in order now also. Good luck to him and I'm looking forward to watching him play a couple more times this year. I think Moore plays J-town in a couple weeks so that should be a great game to watch him go up against Crosby. Let's just hope the coaches let them match up against each other.
  15. Why aren't the people that are upset by this score also upset with the power ranking system. I know for a fact that coaches use them to determine how much they are supposed to win a game by so they don't slip in the rankings. If a team is "favored" by 60 or 70 points doesn't "the system" set up butt whippings like this? Is it fair that a good team HAS to beat a bad team like this to keep it's rankings up? Why not write a letter to the Herald or Courier and rip their rankings. Get off Estill Co because they did everything they could short of telling their kids to quit playing. And how many of you have evere been to see Riverside Christian's school? It's in Lost Creek, KY and looks like a site for a summer camp. They probably shouldn't even field sports teams so put some of the blame on them. And where were you guys when Estill Co. was getting beat by 70+ pts in football back in the late '80s? Nobody cared about our feelings then, and guess what, we got over it and some of us have even led productive lives. Amazing ain't it?
