Game wasn't as close as the score might indicate.

 

Holmes led 17-4 after the first quarter which was highlighted by a Pittman breakaway one handed wind mill tomahawk dunk. OC missed I believe their first six 3 point attempts which really put them in a hole that they'd never get out of.

 

At halftime Holmes was up 31-9 and the pg for OC (#15) had 7 of their 9 points.

 

Third quarter things got even uglier as Holmes pushed their lead out to 46-11 at the 6 minute mark. During that run, Pittman had another breakaway one handed tomahawk dunk that about brought the rim down...literally. With about 4 minutes left to play in the third, Henley started pulling starters with a 39 point lead.

 

Fourth quarter, no starters played and I believe Holmes only scored 3 points which was the reason for the final margin. Found it somewhat classless though that Henley had all of his starters pulled with 3 minutes left in the third and the coach for OC left his starters in until a minute left in the game. Once Henley had all the starters pulled #15 and Cook (#30?) took over and scored at will against the Holmes jv.

 

Arnold for Holmes played very well and had around 10 points. Pittman was a man among boys again tonight, and I'm pretty sure he scored 20+ points for the 4th consecutive game. He's making a strong case for best player in the state with the way he's played recently...and that's no exaggeration. Several of the college coaches in attendance just started shaking their heads and laughing after his second dunk.

Because they need to let this kid grow up and develop. He's an eighth grader, and he has no business playing varsity basketball for Holmes after seeing him today. I do think he'll be a stud in the future, but asking him to contribute to varsity at this point is putting too much pressure on that kid.

He was walking in for his second dunk pretty much and it looked like he barely jumped. It was amazing how much authority he threw it down with, after seeing how nonchalant he came in for the slam.

Pittman is the best player on the Holmes team. I know R. Johnson was ranked higher, but Pittman has had a coming out.

 

As for the classless comment. You can not think it is classless everytime Henley pulls his starters and the other team doesnnt They had 11 points. I'd leave them in too. It isn't classless. Classless would have been if Henley left the starters in.

Oh I agree with you. I was not that impressed. He will be solid in a couple of years, but def. isnt ready yet.

I was somewhat impressed with his size and athleticism for an eighth grader, but as far as his game and bball IQ... not so much.

Mcclendon is hands down the best JV player, outside of Arnold. He isn't big or strong enough yet to be a contributor at the varsity level, but he's definetly a good enough ball handler to add a little more depth to Holmes by March. He played well against the OC varsity. Sure he didn't score but he was the best ball handler on the court. LIke you said...he's only an 8th grader and honestly, he handled the pressure that OC tried to put on him VERY WELL today...just seemed to force the two shots that he took in the lane.

I agree. Pittman is hands down the most talented player on Holmes' team (which you told me at the beginning of the year:sssh:). He will be the #1 ranked player next year in the state, but honestly, I'm not too sure he isn't the best player in the state right now. He has been unreal lately.

Cov Holmes isn't a small school that needs to play an eight grader to have enough players to play, or to fill it's roster. Let HS kids play HS sports or have a rule like Ohio and a lot of other states do, that only allow four years of playing varsity sports. Sorry Eta Rho there is no reason for a kid in grade school playing HS basketball at a school as large as Holmes.
