Too many things to quote so I'll just put them all together:

 

1. I think a lot are way off base regarding Mcclendon. He will in no way, shape, or form be a major contributor this year or see much time for that matter. He WILL however get in to get a little experience in blow outs like tonight. Nothing wrong with that. As someone said earlier, Henley is a great coach and has developed some great players with talent at a young age, so I don't see why some think pressure is being put on Chris because Coach H is playing him?? He won't be put in do or die situations but as the year progresses, you will see him more often and see his role increase. Let's not forget the players he practices against everyday.

 

2. My comment toward Coach Forrest not showing class tonight was probably a bit out of line, after thinking about it. When he saw #15 (pg) scoring at will and taking over against the JV, he pulled him and let him sit the rest of the game.

 

3. Rico faces a lot more pressure than some of us realize. He has AAU and college coaches calling him every night trying to tell him different things to do, rather than just letting him have fun. Rico is the #1 player in the state for a reason though. If people think he's having a rough stretch because he's ONLY averaging 14 a game, I'll take it. Pittman is going to be the star of the team though. IMO there is no team in the state that can match up with him, which is the reason he's dropped 20+ in 4 straight games. Rico, JJ, and Riley all three play to unselfish at times. Pittman benefits GREATLY from this.

 

I'm in complete agreement with your thoughts on this matter. I didn't say that too much pressure is being put on him by playing in blowouts. I said that the people who are saying he should be a secret weapon of sorts for this team this year are being unfair to him. He is going to be fine under Henley's guidance.:thumb:

Just now saw this post. Arnold is no longer playing JV and is strictly varsity but Mcclendon still starts and plays JV.

 

Well IDK I must have missed him in those games that I saw, or he just didn't have good games because I didn't remember him at all. I know Herndon ran the point most of the game for them.

Relax bro. We were discussing Holmes depth I believe it was, and it was I who said "tounge and cheek" to ER, something to the effect of, the secret weapon will be ready by march. To say I'm putting pressure on him, or being unfair to him makes me laugh, are you serious? I would say between School, homework, practice, and games, these kids don't have time to get on BGP.

Chris plays the 2...not PG. He is #10 I believe. Herndon is #3.

He will get more time as the season progresses. He will in no way be a "secret weapon" but as Baseballguy said, he will be another player that can add to Holmes depth for several minutes a game in late Feb and March. I think Baseballguy was kind of jk when he said Chris would be a "secret weapon." He probably was just stating that by late season, Chris would be more ready to contribute more than he is or will now. (Correct me if I'm off base BG)

I'm sure this has been covered before, but is McClendon any relation of Andre or Eddie, both of whom played at Holy Cross (Ed - late 70's, Andre - early 90's). If so, does his participation on a varsity level affect his ability to change schools? Not trying to start any rumors, just wondering if the Holmes braintrust thinks it is in their interest to get him some varsity time for reasons other than just "seasoning"?

We're 10 games in and the kid just now got his first 4 minutes of varsity action. I think some of us may be looking in to it too much. Yes, if he can provide some "quality" minutes and take care of the ball, then he could possibly help down the road. Building confidence and realizing you can play at the varsity level will be the first hurdle.

You was wrong. McClendon has one of the best shots on the team. He didn't shoot a 3 in that game.

I agree with this post but dont be naive to think that Varsity coaches are not courting the top 7th and 8th graders to attend their schools. I know this to be a fact because parents of these players have told me directly.

 

McClendon should be a very nice talent for Holmes and I wish him the best. A lot of things can happen over a 4 yr span so it shoudl be interesting to see how some of these 8th graders who are getting in VArsity games progress.

I don't mean he is actually feeling pressure from you. I'm just saying your comment was ridiculous. I really don't see him making any type of impact at the varsity level at all this year. But I am glad I could give you a laugh.

Again, it was a little joke between ER and myself. And as far as impact, what do you mean? No one expects him to come in and score 20 points, but if he could possibly come in and give one of the starters a breather, without to many mistakes, and playing decent D then that's helping the Team and having an impact. Not to mention the experience he would be getting. Next?
