Re-districting in the future?

Featured Replies

I have heard some rumblings about some major re-districting going on this year for 2011-2012 season. Anyone else hearing this?

There's always someone, somewhere, who doesn't like their district. So you'll hear re-districting calls / demands / pleas every year from now until the KHSAA gets fed up and makes all of KY one big district :D

Seriously, there's always talk of re-districting. I haven't heard anything recently, myself, but would love to know if this is, indeed, in the works.

IN the 1st region, when McCracken consolidates there have to be some redistricting.

Muhlenberg is consolidated as well.

I believe there will be three schools in WKY consolidating, I know one of the schools is Loan Oak. I believe all three are in the same district.

Just looked it up and this is the 2nd District in Paducah. This district is made up of Paducah Tilghman, Lone Oak, Heath, and Reidland. I work with a guy who lives in the area and the last 3 schools named are supposed to consolidate, even with strong opposition from all 3 school districts, this will probably happen. That will leave Tilghman and McCracken Co. Central (as I will call them) as the only two schools in District 2. Of course, this means Districts 1, 3, and 4 are going to probably move some schools around so there won't be a 2 team district. What movement that will be is anyone's guess.

Do you think Marshall County might be moved into that district?

The other 3 districts all have 4 teams each in them. The only solution I see is moving Community Christian of Paducah out of the 4th District and putting them in the 3rd District with Tilghman and McCracken Co. and that will leave the 1st and 2nd Districts with 4 teams and the 3rd and 4th Districts with 3 teams each. Seems logical, but when does the KHSAA do logical?

Also something will have to change when Muhlenberg North and Muhlenberg South consolidates. That district will lose a team.

The KHSAA is on a big push to eliminate three school districts in all sports. I'm not sure of the specifics, but don't be surprized to see a school be added from a neighboring region to fill out the structure.

The reasoning behind it goes to District Tournament play. The state wants to eliminate an automatic bid to the Regional Tournament by either the draw or #1 seed.

I just checked the teams in the 2nd Region, they have 3 four team districts and 1 3 team district. Don't see any movement from the 2nd Region to the 1st. They are in the same boat number of teams wise after the consolidation takes place.

Go west young man.

The 2nd Region is the only place the 1st Region can get teams. The 2nd Region will have to add some teams from the 3rd or 4th and so on.

There are about 280 teams now. Until the number falls below 256, you can still have 64 districts with at least four teams.

At that point, it would be better to eliminate districts and go straight to the regional tournament, as is done in the All "A" Classic. It may not ever get there though. There aren't many possible consolidations left.

I'm not going to disspute you, just didn't look at the bigger picture. looks like the possiblity of a lot of movement in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Regions to even things out.

I heard some 9th region teams would move to the 10th. The 10th has one district that has 5 teams and I think there are one/two 9th region districts that have 5/6 teams. To make this more interesting was that Scott County was going back to the 8th and Elliot County was going to the 15th.
