Wireman Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/living/2009/01/23/gillett.100.point.loss.KTXA The winning team has gone as far as to offer to forfeit the game...
KYHOOP Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I think it shows alot for the school to forfeit the game. But really its hard to tell your team not to play hard.
KY Thorobred Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Kinda reminds me of the Nicholas County 92-5 win over KSD this year.
big royal daddy Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Read an article in today's paper and the school that lost (both schools are private) has only 20 girls enroled and 8 of them play. Also the school caters to special needs kids. They are NOT handicapped, but have attention disorders and dyslexia and such. They said they were shooting 3 pointers late in the third quater and the closer they got to 100 the players and fans were cheering. I blame the coaches for letting this get out of hand. The coaches should have told the girls not to openly show emotion on the bench and kept the decorum low key. The parents should not have jumped up and down and cherred after the first quater, no matter if their daughter is the last player on the bench and never gets to play.
doomer Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Well....there was a situation like this close to home last year. Early in the season, Frankfort High, which is a small independent school still had most of their boys basketball team playing football. They played PL Dunbar which was a very good team. Dunbar won 88-4 as I recall. There was certainly some discussion, but nothing of this magnitude. Is there that much difference? Certainly no one likes this situation..the winners or the losers. This is why I believe at some point there should be a running clock like football. At least it minimizes the damage. And, I believe all the kids on both teams still want to play regardless of the score.
nWo Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 The story I saw on tv said that the coach left his starters in until the 4th quarter. Anyone else see or hear that?
big royal daddy Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 The story I saw on tv said that the coach left his starters in until the 4th quarter. Anyone else see or hear that? Yes, heard the same thing. I heard that it was nothing but a lay-up drill during most of the game. The other team couldn't get the ball across the half court line.:isurrender:
Wireman Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 It also said that the crowd was rooting hard for 100 points, even when it was late in the game. That is a poor effort.
big royal daddy Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I am not discussing the fact that the players need to play hard and give 100%, but it was a classless act on the fans part and the coaches part. Cheering for 100 points against a basically defensless team is just down right classless.
