I'm rooting for the Purples, as I am for T and X and Raceland this week. Go bluegrass! To paraphrase a line from The Program- beat 'em all, let the paramedics sort 'em out!

McCallie has had a gauntlet to run through. That is a tough schedule. That doesn't take away the BG went into their house and won. The Purples did the state proud, IMO.

Going on the road and getting that win does the state proud, IMO.

The argument that football in KY is down because schools like Trinity haven't won out of state is bogus, IMO. You can argue T is down, maybe. Of course, maybe football in Tennessee or Indiana or Ohio is up- right? Correlation does not equal causation. I think there is a better argument to be made that Kentucky football is up. T is down and teams in state have beat T (well, Male has). X is at a similar level to where they have been the last couple of years and teams in state have beat X. BG has raised their level and profile to become, arguably, the best team in the state. Highlands has conducted themselves well out of state this year. Parity is not traditionally an indicator of overall lack of quality- normally it is seen as an indicator to the opposite. There is no inferred added pressure for BG to beat Blackmon. BG wants to beat Blackmon because they want to beat everyone on their schedule. The Purples have already done the state proud in beating McCallie. BG has proven they have raised their level this year. Scoot County has raised their already high level. SK has raised their level. Male and Manuel have raised their level. That is just in 6A. We can see improvement across the divisions over the last 5 years or so, IMO.

I have always worn my whistle during football games. It helps me in pregame organization and doubles for holding my play sheets during the game.

I love Option Football! I love watching the Academies; I live watching Oregon; I love learning about Ferris St. It is creative and innovative when done well.

The Ensworth game and this one against Colerain were the two games that scared me the most for Trinity just because of the physical nature of both ball clubs. Good luck to the Rocks- lets see if they can get back on track!

I am not sure who is the best, but it is a three horse race with BG, H and T. My gut says T is probably the best of the three- let's not lose sight of the fact that their first two loses come to likely state champions in Tennessee and Indiana. Let's also not lose sight of the quality of team H destroyed in their first game. The top level of Kentucky High School football is REALLY scary good, IMO.

What message do you send to the young men you coach when you resort to these tactics? I remember coaching at Trinity Valley School when we played Oakridge. Oakridge had 4 Division 1 prospects including Ross Apo, who was starting at WR for BYU prior to suffering multiple concussions. We had none at the time, although a sophomore ending up progressing and playing at Rice he wasn't being recruited at that time. Anyway, one of their DB's lost their wrist band with defensive plays on it. One of our WR's snuck the band over to our head coach so we could steal their signals. We knew Oakridge was good. We also knew there was a potential we would see them again in the title game. The coach called over a referee and gave him the band and told him that it belonged to Oakridge and ask the ref to return it. The coach then turned to the WR and said "We earn our wins at TVS. No short cuts." There are lots of lessons to be learned playing football and if you don't have a coach willing to teach them, then you should find the right guy. Some things are bigger than the game, IMO. BTW, we did see Oakridge in the title game. Oakridge lost two games that season, both to TVS. No short cuts!

Congrats to the Shamrocks on this pre-season honor. Think about the state of Kentucky football- Rocks at #2 in a prestigious poll like USA Today, Highlands ranked in the top 25 in a poll, and some folks are not convinced that St. X couldn't beat both of them. This should be an awesome year in Kentucky high school football! In the immortal words of Bart Scott: "Can't wait!"

Awesome for Highlands! I am surprised that this poll has Highlands as the best team in Kentucky. I can't wait for the season to start and we can see just how good this iteration of the Bluebirds are.

Well, I'm pretty sure the players will decide who is the best on the field- but I understand your sentiment.

Is anyone forcing these coaches to have the extensive off season programs that they are offering? If you don't want to do it, then don't. To complain or to try to insinuate that others should not offer these programs is silly, IMO. I played, I coach, I love the time I spend with my athletes. Athletes and coaches still have the choice to participate, no? Bottom line, for me, is that I knew what I was signing up for when I chose to play football in high school, I knew what I was signing up for when I played in college, I knew what I signed up for when I got into coaching in Kentuky and I knew what I signed up for when I got into coaching in Texas. If you don't care for the demands, there are other pastimes to take up- find one that fits your schedule and availability.

Based on the questions that were posed by Guru, I hope these coaches know that they are not doing any more than other high school coaches are all over the country. You could always not offer Spring Football or Summer 7 on 7 at your high school, just curb your resentment of the coaches that are out there working with their boys and taking advantage of these opportunities (especially after you team gets beat by the teams that are putting in the extra effort to get better).

If T could work out the travel, I bet there are some teams down here in Texas that would gladly sign on to play the Rocks. I do, in all seriousness, hope they get a high profile out of state opponent since there is not a high profile in state opponent to pick up.

You are entitled to your perspective. That does nothing to change my original sentiment, which is that there is no more pressure packed position as a new head coach than the one that expects two wins over Trinity in 2013.

There will be a ton of people at PJS in October wearing Green and Gold that would disagree with you, I think.

Favored- who knows? I would like to hear from the St. X fan that expects the Tigers to lose to the Rocks this coming season. Maybe that is unfair- I would like to hear from the St. X fan that would not be disappointed in a loss to the Rocks this year? Anyone- Bueller, Bueller?

I'll answer your question with a question- if Highlands were in 6A, do you feel St. X would be in the top 2 every year? I feel that, for T, X and the Birds, the answer to this question is probably a no- in other words, none of these programs would be guaranteed top 2 every year for the last 10 years if they all had to play each other. I hope that all X fans do not feel that I am bashing this program. This was NOT my intent. The more research I am doing on this, the more I feel that an argument can be made for potential inclusion of all 3 of the top Kentucky programs in a top 25.

I can definitely see your points about the division in which they play impacting a computer ranking. I disagree with the computers, but it is what it is.
