I remember a player from Cov.Cath. back in the late 60's, John VonLehman, dropped 40 some points on Lyons and company at the Fieldhouse and went on to a nice career at the University of Dayton. Thought he might be one of the best to come out of there.

Western Hills - Byron Woodard, Brad Mefford, Jordan Samuels, Adam Simpson

Frankfort - Chris Current, Tommy Johnson (just some more current ones)

Woodford County - Givens Brothers

Arnie Risen and Fred Hale from Williamstown. Hale scored something like 4000+ points and Risen went to the NBA HOF with Larry Bird. Didn't get to see either of them play unfortunately.

Excuse me because I get confused easily. I have seen the comparison of Dave Cowen blasted against Darryl Griffith, blasted because Cowen turned it on after High School. I have also seen the comparison of Richie Farmer to Griffith blasted because Griffith was better later. Due to the nature of the thread I could understand this, but it seems to be some of the same posters on both issues.:confused:

Richie Farmer, King Kelly Coleman and Darrell Griffith are probably the best high school basketball players ever in this state. But if you want the best basketball player ever to come out of this state it has to be Wes Unseld. High school and college star and one of the 50 best all-time NBA Hall of Famers. Wes is the best ever to come out of this state. It was just a shame he didn't play for the Big Blue.

Didn't Clay Co. win the state championship the year after Richie graduated too. Wasn't Chadwell the best player on that team. I agree Richie's turnaround "J" for 3 from the top of the key was unstopable, but he didn't play a lick of defense. Chadwell, if Richie hadn't been a cult hero and light's out shooter, would have been talked about like Richie. Just ask the people in Clay Co and they'll tell you Russ was the reason they won so much. And MAN, COULD HE JUMP!!!

Richie Farmer's name is synonymous with Kentucky High School Basketball period.

I'd throw Ervin Stepp in there, as well.
