Who are some of the great players from Elliott County/ Sandy Hook? My mother told me about a guy she went to high school with the name Orbie Bowling. I never saw him play. She said at the time he was the best. Since I do not live around Elliott Co. I have not seen this great team they have now play, but I hope to soon.Also I heard about a player from Flat Gap that went on to star at Western KY. I think he played in the 56-57 time period. Can anyone help with his name?

He was my coach at Montgomery County the first two years of the merged school (Montgomery County/Mt. Sterling) from 1976-1978.

Id say you could have added a lot of points to his total if there was a 3 point line,Great Player.

 

Ronnie Lyons was the most exciting player to watch that I have ever seen in the 10th region. Chris Lofton, Deron Feldhaus, Fred Walker, Darius Miller, Bobby Jones ,Chris Harrison were all great ballplayers but Ronnie was the most exciting of the lot.

Hubbs and Hearld are in my top 10.

 

Howard and Turner were good players on good teams, but they were role players the way I remember. I don't remember Jordan, but I do know those teams weren't very good.

 

 

Hearld was the one that I had going back and fourth on I would agree that he should be there but Husky Turner was a man on that 77-78 team he led the team in rebounds and always dominated the paint at just over six feet. Mike Howard was more than a roll player on the mid 70s teams he would however take a back seat to Parks but he could be counted on to get needed buckets, and single handed kept Cawood in the Regional finals after most of the other starters had fouled out. As for the argument on Hubbs he was a scorer and a good passer but he could never play any defense at all, he was very slow and could not jump. (This is what I was told by the college coaches that I begged to come to the regionals to see him vs Cash and Rockcastle), Cash by the way did go on to play at the next level.

Disagree, best player should be the one that leads the team both on the court and off, someone that could put a team on his shoulders and go, team player, win championships and that person at Mason County was Chris Lofton, bottom line. Not about just scoring or who the all time leading scorer was at the school. Based on collectively what that player did for their team and all Chris Lofton did was win!

 

The 10th region was a lot stronger in Lyons playing days. Great teams all across the region. Lyons was the best high school player I ever saw period.

For Mason Co.: Ronnie Lyons, Chris Lofton, Deron Feldhaus and Darius Miller, not in any particular order, put them where you want. The big difference between Ronnie and Chris other than Regional and State Championships, was the 3 point line or lack there of, and the style of play and their coaches style. I'll take Kelly Wells and Mark Starns over Jim Mitchell anyday. Mitchell's substitute patterns resembled a chineese fire drill at times and hurt the team somewhat. Chris would not have come close to Ronnie in scoring if the 3 point line was in effect back in his day and it would have been an awesome match-up to see Lyons & Co. play the 2003 Lofton State Champs.

Haven't seen anyone on here representing the Saints from St. Pat. so how about Fanny Stahl, Tim Purdon, and Jay Gast.
