He also led St.X to the state title in 1962 and was named Mr.Basketball.Went on to Army where he played for Bobby Knight. Led team USA to Olympic gold medal.NBA career cut short due to knee injury.One of the best ever in the state.Coach Knight still calls him the best player he has coached.

Male played NC during the 75/76 school year. NC had Timmy Sandfoss, Charlie Craddock, Kenny Wilfong, Dave Faust and I think Mike Schmit(sp) as the starting five. I will never forget the shot that Griffen pulled out of the air, Charlie Craddock, who could jump as well, pulled up for a jump shot and Griffen, from about three feet away, jump up and grabbed the ball (palming it in one hand) as he brought it back to earth.

The Male team that year has been the best high school basketball team that I have ever seen!!!

Although this might be getting off topic, there's no doubt that Tubby missed the boat by not signing Lofton. Maybe he wouldn't fix all that's wrong with the Cats, but you can't convince me that a backcourt of Rondo and Lofton wouldn't be a VAST improvement over what they're putting on the floor these days.

 

I totally agree with you here, in the comment in the Ledger Independent today someone called in a said Chris Lofton should send Tubby the song from Toby Keith "How Do You Like Me Now?" not a bad idea. :lol:

Deming would have to nominate Stephen Staggs as their best player ever.

 

Stephen was a good player, but I'll stay with Joe Mitchell from 1981 Black Devils roster.

"Pat Veep" - To be recruited by UK and Rupp puts "The Horse" ahead of Dinn, (who played where?). Another Boone graduate was Greg Kinman who was an all-OVC performer at Austin Peay in the 70's.

Talbert Turner was a true shooter in his days at Pendleton County, back in the early eighties.

A toss up between Jim Rose and Johnny Cox of Hazard. In the Modern Era, it would have to be Carl Wallace.

Way to go Sharp!!! In Pendleton Co. , it was definitely Bobby Lee Wyatt. Talbert Turner only had the numbers that he had because took about 70 shots a game. Wyatt was pure majic to watch. This post comes from some one who played most of his child hood on the courts and driveways of Falmouth with Wyatt!

 

Arguably, these were very good athletes, but another name to throw out there is Rick Elrod father of Jon Elrod. Rick was an all around athlete, ball handler, shooter, passer, defender, could jump with the best and also a nice 6'4" Guard. Went on to a stellar career at Georgetown College won numerous national awards on the NAIA Level, drafted by the Phoenix Suns the same year as Kyle Macy I believe, then decided that basketball was now a part of his past and it was time to begin his adult family life. A class individual and good citizen.

Paul Smith is no doubt the best basketball player to ever play at Owsley. He averaged nearly 35 points a game his soph, junior, and senior year
