There was a great player from 60's that played for the Newport Wildcats, I think his name was Vories. I thinked he went on and stared for Geogetown, Ky or Berea?

 

 

That would be Dick Vories....he went on to Georgetown (Ky.) and had a great career.

From St. Henry I would throw in some of the seniors from the 2003 team. Fabiani, Schmidt, Vieth, Szcarnick (sp), Otte and some others. Good players, good team.

 

I don't think Fabiani, Schmidt, Vieth, Czarnik or Otte would be the best players ever from St. Henry; however, they did make a very good team.

Moose had his jersey retired at Emery Riddle (sp) College in Florida about two years ago. That is an aviation and aeronautics school, and Moose was on one of the first teams they had. He still owns several records there. He also has several records in the All A Classic state tournament. One is the 115 points he scored in 4 games in the 1990 tournament, the year that Owsley County lost to University Heights in the championship game. Moose was MVP of the tournament that year even though the Owls didn't win the final game.

Moose is now an airline pilot for United Airlines.

Emory Riddle !! That is where Bellevue star Steve Ridder is AD! Kid could really fill it up!

I remember watching Moose play. They were very few players that could stop him and they didn' play in this state. He was tough.

I seen Bellevue High School star, Steve Ridder beat a powerhouse Newport Wildcats just about single handly, back in the 1976 in the first round of the Disticts, I think he scored 42 points. ( He was really a complete player!!).

Jason was a good ballplayer but not the best to ever play at BHS.....you need to look further back....Bill Nagel pulled down like 39 rebounds in one game in the early 70's and avg'd like a double double I believe. Doug Miller was a heckuva shooter in early 80's and Jimmy Maher was outstanding in 82 when they knocked off NCC in the district.

For Middlesboro I would pick Stuart Miller ,Not only is he a great BB player but he is also a get kid.

I bet Tubby wished he had Lofton out in Kansas Saturday! I know I did!

Although this might be getting off topic, there's no doubt that Tubby missed the boat by not signing Lofton. Maybe he wouldn't fix all that's wrong with the Cats, but you can't convince me that a backcourt of Rondo and Lofton wouldn't be a VAST improvement over what they're putting on the floor these days.

You are probably right on missing the boat, but I don't believe Tubby had any scollys left. I like Chris, but I will take Bradley over him. Not because Bradley is a better shooter. Because he is quicker and can play defence.

Loften would probably be a improvement, but Lofton does not create a lot of his shots. IMO, he would have a hard time scoring for UK as he does for TN. He would have no one to help get him open with all the UK players just standing around. Lofton is good, but he can't help a team that has no heart.

 

Back to the subject of the thread. I think at Mason Co. there would be a close race between who was the best Lofton or Lions. Lofton did out score Lions, but he also had the 3 ball and played a lot more games to do it. Lofton did when a State Championship because of team play. There was a lot of best players for teams that never got out of the Region and Ronnie Lions was one of them.
