Malachi...I think the game was at CCH involving Griffith. The other star was Bobby Turner. He used to go up with a basketball in each hand and dunk them both (one after the other naturally). The only person who could beat him in a dunking contest was DG, his teammate.

Now I know we are talking a long time ago, and memory is one of the first things to go. But I recall myself and some friends of mine (we were not driving yet) walking down Grand Ave. about three hours before the game. Anybody else recall Male playing at NC ? What year ? Or have I totally lost my mind?

i agree Staggs was great, he singlehanded won the 38th district championship for Deming in 1994.

Yes Male did play NC up on the hill. I to was a young lad and remember being amazed at how high Griffith could jump. I believe the year was either 1975 or 1976.

I too will confirm that Male played at NC with Turner and Griffith. I believe it was a Saturday night and they played a Cincinnati team the night before.

Tommy Owsely Lincoln County early 80's. Smooth as silk. Went on to Berea and became their all time leading scorer. I am not sure if the record is still his, but it was for a long time.

Quit begging for a transfer that's not going to happen.

He also led St.X to the state title in 1962 and was named Mr.Basketball.Went on to Army where he played for Bobby Knight. Led team USA to Olympic gold medal.NBA career cut short due to knee injury.One of the best ever in the state.Coach Knight still calls him the best player he has coached.

Staggs was thier best player, but also Damian Houchens was really good during that time. They both scored well over 1,000 points while playing on the same team.

 

Patrick Kelsch could really shoot. It's a shame he didn't have more help.
