I first met woody in 1973 when he played football for the seniors red devils. He came to us as a eyes wide open kid with a huge smile and a twice the heart. His infectious attitude was contagious to all that played with him and coached him.I think our team record was average at best. The very next year was the first year the nkyfl held its first super bowl at newport high school. We were very sucessful in 1974 with woody playing a huge role as a running back and nose guard. We defeated avery good newport firefighter team who had beaten us earlier in the year.Woody moved on to CCHS where he played for the legendary coached Bob Miller and ran track under long time
sucessful coach Allan Arhman.Woody met and fell in love with his future wife Colleen. After graduation and a few years later Woody served his country in the US.ARMYsignal corp.As luck wood have it our paths cross again in1990 as he and i started coaching together with the senior red devils. The countless hours that Woody gave back to the red devil org. and campbell co, high school can never be repaid. His payment was the love and respect his players had for him.His legacy will be on the base ball diamonds with the umpires he mentored and on the football fields where he coached hundreds of kids .His spirit will always live because of you who where lucky enough to be coached my him and will pass that passion on to your children. We loved you woody you were the best.
