In my opinion Larry Stamper was the best ball player to come out of Lee County. He led the Bobcats to the State Semi Finals where they lost in overtime to Louisville, Seneca. Another Lee County great that has been forgotten is none other than Orvis Spencer. Spencer as a sophomore helped take the Bobcats to the Sweet 16 in '73 but were defeated in the first round. After his sophomore year the 6'10'' center's glory days seemed to fade due to whatever...I'm really not sure what happened, i'm assuming maybe personal issues. If anybody remembers when Orvis played please respond to help others know how good he was and how good he COULD HAVE BEEN had whatever happened gone the other way. I'm too young to have watched either of these two play but if anybody has any stories please share...

Agree, Stamper would be tough to argue out of Lee County, although they had some good ones back in the 50's that played there as well.

Stamper also went on to play at UK under Rupp.

I would add Tony Muncie, Skip Johnson, and Larry Long to this list although Johnson and Long played their first two seasons for old Irvine High before the consolidation. I've also heard that Guy Strong was a heck of a player for old Irvine High School.

Tony Muncie? Man, are you dating yourself!!! Skip Johnson was one I should have thought about. Heard he was dominant in his day. Doesn't Kiser hold the school scoring record?

Your joking right. DRaud hands down from an outsider standpoint. Name another Highlands player that played at a high level on the D1 stage? Not to mention his 35ppg like 2 yrs in a row before the 3pt line.

I would argue that on any given night, Russ Chadwell was just as good as Farmer for Clay County. Fantastic player.

Ross Neltner played at the same school as Draud. Still go with Draud as the best though.

It is hard to list the top players because the game has changed so much over the years. To me the game is more physical today than when I played in the 70's. There is so much more weight training done now.

I said that Richie was the 2nd best all time high school player in KY history and I'll stand by that. Want proof? Check out his Senior year state finals game against Ballard in which he poured in 53 (I think) points against a pretty fair player by the name of Allen Houston.
