There are also three other players from Silver Grove that people are looking right over the top of. It is the McCarter family. Scott McCarter played in the late 70's and early 80's. I'm not sure of all his career totals but I do know that he ended up with over 1,000 career points. Son Chad McCarter played at the end of the 90's and the beginning of the 2000's. He had over 2,000 career points and was the all-time leading at Silver Grove until his brother passed him. He was one that was extremely hard to guard. If you over played him he would just go right by you. If you backed off of him he would just pull and hit a jumper with no problem. Brother Bryant McCarter played from 2000-2005. He came out as the schools all-time leading passing his brother during the 2005 season. He also had over 1,000 career rebounds and maybe closer to over 1,500 career rebounds. He was only 6'1'' and was one the most dominant post players in Northern Kentucky while he played. This trio of family members will go down as maybe the best family to ever play at the school of Silver Grove. This family will always be remembered for all of their accomplishments that they achieved.:thumb:

I dont know if he was the best player ever at Laurel County, but Paul Andrews is a legend after hitting ONE shot to win a state title. Went on to play at UK.

I have to agree with the Math Man on this one.

 

Frank Selvey - turned down Rupp and went on to play 10+ years in the nba.

Jerry Bird - jersey retired by UK, played in the nba.

Jerry Smith - played in the nba

Marvin Selvey- holds the state record for consecutive FT's made,played at UL

Rick Jones - went on to become Mr Basketball after moving before Jr year.

Tony Pietrowski - Mr. Basketball runner-up.

 

Not only did Frank Selvy have a great career he was the #1 overall pick

Mike Salyers, he was a heck of a high school player.

Corey Pelle was hands down, the best player to come out of the Grove. He led the entire Greater Cincinnati area in scoring at 29 ppg and was named the Enquirer Player of the Year. And before you knock the schedule, he did this against the All A champs and state leader in defense, Bishop Brossart (3 times). He is currently averaging 15 ppg for D 2 West Liberty College, who is 6-1. Pelle also leads the conference in steals and assists.

 

Many guys before my time say Goodwin was the best.

 

I agree that Corey was the best. I played with his Dad, and he and Gary Lemons were a tough 1-2 punch.

 

Up until Corey, I would say Ken Hedges. He was a beast. Played at both Thomas More and NKU. Still say he was the best post player I ever saw play at SG. His brothers Mike, Marc, and Mitch could play as well.

The best from Deming was Scotty Graves back in the 1950s.

Lenny Bays from Bellevue could sure light it up. He is probably one of if not the best at Bellevue.

No question at Moore High School - Manual Forest. Still among the all time scorers in Ky history, scoring over 3,000 against tough Louisville competition. Put up 50 in a loss in the state tournament against Simon Kenton in 1981. One of the all-time greats in Ky. Was rated the #2 player in high school that year behind Patrick Ewing. Bad knees got to him at the University of Louisville keeping him out of the pros.

Are you sure he could play with Mitchell? Mitchell is a legend in Robertson Co.

Manual scored 50 in the semi finals against Simon Kenton. He also took some terrible shots down the stretch that allowed Simon Kenton to get back in that game.
