Something people need to start taking into account when talking about a possible all SEC National Championship game, is the possibility of what if Georgia wins the SEC Championship game. Yeah it might be unlikely, however they have one of the top defenses in the country, so it could happen. Which if Georgia did win, that means they get one automatic bid from the SEC. Which then leads to only one at large being able to come from the SEC out of LSU, Bama, and Arkansas. So even though everythign is falling in place for a SEC National Title game, Georgia could still ruin all that.

It just so happened that the SECCG winner was ranked in the top two and played in the BCSNCG the past five years.

I think if they take the top 2 in the BCS rankings and see what their head to head was...or something like that.

The exact provision that would come into play:

 

8. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the last weekend of regular-season games shall be the divisional representative in the SEC Championship Game, unless the second of the tied teams is ranked within five-or-fewer places of the highest ranked tied team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the SEC Championship Game.

 

So the craziness of that would be that any of the teams is going to be within five or fewer places of the highest team. So it could come down to how far LSU would drop. If LSU didn't drop behind Arkansas, then they're going to go unless Arkansas is likewise ahead of Alabama (and why would they be). If LSU drops behind Arkansas in a "sorry about when you lost" situation, then Alabama would go. Really, it would take something very unlikely to put Arkansas in. They'd have to jump Alabama and not have the Tide jump LSU.

That is incorrect. The BCS will allow for three teams from the same conference if both in the national title game are at-large BCS births. Say Georgia wins by a point, LSU/Bama rematch could still happen in the national title game. Depending upon things shake out, this is not an outlandish scenario.

What if Arkansas beats LSU and then UGA beats Arkansas (who would jump Bama I would guess in the BCS & move to the SEC Title Game)? Does UGA get in the BCS Championship as a 2 loss SEC champion?

Or what if UGA & LSU play and UGA wins? Do they get in? SEC Champ, longest winning streak in the country other than Houston.

I am not seeing any scenario where Georgia makes it the national title game, unless they dismantle both Georgia Tech and LSU. Barely beating either or both of them will not cut it. They have yet to really have a good victory.

 

If LSU wins this week, I think they are in. If Bama wins this week, they are in. If Arkansas wins this week, it would be interesting to see what happens. People can hate on the BCS all they want, but it makes for good conversation.

 

If people want chaos, then root for Arkansas to win this weekend. I have no clue what would happen or who would even be playing in the SEC championship game.

No way should a team that doesn't win their division in any conference be in the national chanmpionship game. I am rooting for LSU all the way. Having said that if they don't win the SEC West- I don't see how you can put them in the title game. Same for Alabama and Arkansas. This is the problem with not having a playoff system and ranking every team in the SEC above all others. It is ridiculous that three teams from the same division of the same conference are going to be ranked 1, 2 and 3 in the country.

 

Furthermore, should any of those three teams lose to Georgia, then the SEC has eliminated itself from the national championship picture. With 3 of the 5 big bowls played in SEC home states this year, what further advantage should the SEC have???...vote most of the their teams in the Top 10 next year and just rotate them around when they lose to each other..."oh Arkansas #6 just lost on the road to a tough #4 Florida team-so that shouldn't hurt them too bad in the polls" I can hear the announcers saying.

 

Blow this system up....great for controversy, but the system is corrupt. Playoffs settle the issue fair and square.

Georgia has no wins that paint them as a legitimate national contender. Heck, they even let Kentucky hang around.

It's probably a good thing to have the computer rankings after all that's happened over the past few days. Things have suddenly gotten very interesting; looking forward to seeing the BCS rankings show tonight.
