LasVegas oddsmakers who do these forecasts and are some pretty good experts who just go with the facts and teams and leave emotion out of it have LSU, Bama, Oregon as the top three teams as of right now. Not showing a lot of respect for the Cowboys, they have even said that the Sooners might be the right pick in the matchup between Sooners/Cowboys.

 

They also think Oregon their D and O lines are just not much of NFL types compared to the SEC/Big 12 schools. Look for an UDC/Oregon great match up this weekend, interesting stuff from some guys who know a little about the games.

They did look solid against Stanford, but of course, Alabama's offense is scoring something like 34.5 per game this year. Scored 31 against that Arkansas team that you & others are rooting hard for. If Arkansas or Georgia does beat LSU, it's going to send college football into a frenzy.

 

Agree on a Bama/Oregon game...but Oregon could play anybody & it would be entertaining. They are a very fun team to watch.

I don't see a case for Alabama. They lost a close one in OT. But they were at home. And if they face off for the title and Bama wins, how does that win rate greater than the regular season loss?

A plus 1 would make this one of the best college football seasons ever.

Bama already holds a 4 TD victory over Arkansas...

If Ok St. loses, Bama would be the only other team in the nation not to lose in Regulation other than LSU and Houston (no chance).

 

A few years ago Les Miles pushed for his team because they were undefeated in regulation...and that National Championship team had 2 Losses.

Oregon is a different and much more explosive team than they were then. They have played better than 'Bama down the stretch. A lopsided win over Stanford, and a victory over a very good USC team I think speaks better. I also think it would give fans a more entertaining national title game.

I don't. I think the result would be similar to the first game. Team's often improve and play better when they aren't going up against SEC heavyweights. Auburn was by far the worst team and worst defense the SEC has sent to a national title game and the stymied Oregon's high octane offense with their power and explosiveness in the trenches and their speed in the back seven. LSU's defense is much better than what Auburn had last year. Oregon has a significant speed advantage over every team in the Pac-10. That vanishes when they play LSU, so not only can they not match up in the trenches, but they can't beat them on the edge either.

 

Of course, I'd prefer to see Alabama and LSU play other teams. I'd love to see Alabama get matched up with Boise.

 

Regardless, if the goal is to get the two best teams in the game, and if Oklahoma wins putting everybody at one loss, that other team is Alabama.

What's worse? A close loss at home or a blowout at a neutral site. By that logic, assuming LSU doesn't slip, we have to rule Oregon and Alabama out of contention. That leaves Oklahoma, IMO, in this scenario.

LSU didn't have a couple of their best players for the Oregon game either....Different game, same result.

THIS IS WHY THE BCS IS GARBAGE, if the doomsday prophecies are fulfilled and LSU loses to Arkansas and OK ST. loses to Oklahoma, then you have OK v. Alabama, but if OK loses in the Big 12 championship game, you could have Alabama v Oregon for the National Title. LSU would be pretty content w/ that. Of course, having a playoff would be a stupid idea that wouldn't make any money.

I posted this in the ISU/OSU game thread, but I guess it needs to resurfice. ESPN national poll to play as the "ONE LOSS" team has Bama at 54% and Oregon 28% Sooners at 15%. LSU still has a couple of tough games. The Gogs play Friday at LSU and then if LSU wins that one they play Georgia, we have Auburn next Saturday at Auburn, we win those two we are in.

 

Its amazing for Bama fans because we needed some teams to lose for us to get a chance and in six days it has done just this. (I've repeated myself from the other thread, sorry)

Don't forget Oregon replaced alot of starters from last year. They may not have an offensive explosion vs. LSU but they will look alot better on both sides of the ball if they play again IMO.
