Houston is a good offense, but I don't see any way that team can play against any of the top 5-6 teams. JMO

Why 'Bama and not Oregon?

 

Oregon lost to them in Week 1. Both Thomas and James went out of that game with injuries, and the freshman came in and fumbled twice. Oregon is a different and much more explosive team than they were then. They have played better than 'Bama down the stretch. A lopsided win over Stanford, and a victory over a very good USC team I think speaks better. I also think it would give fans a more entertaining national title game.

The BCS calculates points based in part upon two polls in which sportswriters and coaches vote. Any argument that those votes aren't cast based at least somewhat upon entertainment value would be fatuous. Incidentally, in watching football games played recently, I don't think Alabama is one of the best two football teams right now. Defense, yes. Team, no.

That's fine, and a defensible opinion. But it's ludicrous to assert that we should go with one matchup over the other because of "entertainment value."

 

Not to mention that any system that takes polls into account is inherently flawed.

Bottom line, though ... Alabama lost to LSU in overtime and Oregon lost to them by two touchdowns. There are other factors to take into account, like timing and location of game, etc., but the fact remains that Alabama gave LSU a much more difficult game.
