Frisk was the 1st that popped into my mind. I didn't get to see Alexander. Some others: Britt (Danville), West (Lawrence Co), Shelton (Bryan Station), Al Baker, Berger (Beechwood), Howard (Belfry), Thomas (Ashland), Fugate (Breathitt), Reagan (Rockcastle), McShara (Boyle), Jude (Johnson Central), Anderson (St X), Bush (Male) best player ever from KY IMO he played everywhere, McBroom (Trinity), Pinner those are just some off my head.

Frisk was the best I think I've seen though.

Looks like the thread is finally navigating itself towards Alexander clearly being at the top of this heap.

 

Being the NFL MVP is a pretty good starting point.

 

Did crack up at reading all the "shout outs" being handed out though. Most of them were good to very good high school running backs, who all line up behind Alexander.

 

Surprised no one has mentioned that Boone County has had plenty of running backs not named Alexander who were as good, or better, than many of the names on this list.

 

I'll also throw out that while I never saw him play in high school, Higgs did seem to have a pretty good career in the SEC (UK). If I'm correct, then that has to put him pretty high on a state wide list.

 

And Bush is playing in the NFL for what, the fourth or fifth year?

Timmy King Boone County was a very good running back, had he not tore his acl his senior year he was going to play big time D1 ball.

You guys might not remember this guy, but Tony Law is probably the best all round back to come out of Boone Co. Don t get me wrong Shaun was great, but Tony was unbelieveable. 6'2 220 and ran a 4.6. Also George Rudd and Shane Becket are right there also.

McBroom was a WR, Tim Phillips would be my vote from Trinity if anyone.

How bout one of the number geeks throwing out a poll. Give the kid a vote for being nominated and make sure you give him a vote when people take a shot at him because to me that means he was real good and they really want to agree but they cant because they are just a little ticked off that he didnt play on their team. No so sure the obvious leading vote getter is the leading vote getter anymore LOL.

His down fall was he liked to be wild too often. He got home sick and left. Unfortunetly he resently lost his life to the wild side. But you could not have met a nicer person. RIP #32. He played 86 87 yrs . First play from scrimmage at Henry Clay in the playoffs in 87 he went 75 yards untouched. The 87 yr we were loaded in the back field. John Ransdale, John Smith and Tony.

What a shame! definitely along the lines of a Marcus Dupree story for this area.

 

Kip Mason was mentioned and as far as "could have been's" he was indeed a fun running back to watch, but his size really would have been a downfall at the collegiate level. Now I thought he played baseball in college somewhere as evidently he was an excellent catcher.

Ed Ziegler, NewCath '66. Rushed for 1500 yards in 10 games while playing in the GCL when Bacon and Purcell were still in the south and very, very good. (Think about that, 150 yds/game playing 7 GCL opponents.) Signed w/ the defending National Champion Fighting Irish. Two year starter. Now a nationally recognized Evironmental Law professor and writer in Denver.

Ahhh..."country", not county. Looks like it's had a rough go, but glad to see it's still there.

 

It was cracked when it was moved from spot to another in front of the Courthouse in Greenup. Don scored 72 points in a game for McKell High School.

I had the opportunity of playing with Skirvin, Menetrey and Frisk(all for varied amounts of time). Of those three, I'd say Frisk had the most talent. Another possiblity would be Anthony Boggs at Nelson County. Frisk and Boggs were mirror images of each other.
