Wish we could get NCC to agree to a Forsh battle with the Birds to see whot the real top freshman team in the area is year after year.

For a second I thought you were talking about Mayfield. :creepy: We don't have enough players to have just a freshman team. We have to drop down 3 or 4 sophomores. :D

The Scribe usually addresses this... have these teams ever met up before?

Mayfield and NCC have met twice during the 1985 and 1986 Class AA state title games with Mayfield coming away with wins in games that are described as some of the best championship games ever played at the old Cardinal Stadium...and this years matchup should be a very highly contested contest.

Understood. I'm sure if you looked at the NCC vs CovCath game film you would wonder how NCC ever qualified for the playoffs. I think the thing you have to remember with 1A teams is sometimes their strenghts aren't all that strong against 3A or 4A teams and their weaknesses are very weak against that type of competition. Still better for Mayfield and NCC to play those types of games as both have district games that are often blow-outs.

That is sooooo true as Mayfield has to schedule a very tough first half of the season as normally the district is not that tough and the games are over by halftime with JV and freshman playing most of the 2nd half as Mayfield has never been one to intentionally run up a score to make themselves feel better...no sense in trying to demoralize your opponent when you have them down. But getting back to the original point...Class A teams are smart to play tougher 3A and 4A teams in the early season to get yourself battle tested for the playoffs...I would much play a tough non district schedule and lose one or two and make a deep playoff run instead of going undefeated against a cupcake schedule that would make Hostess jealous and then lose in the playoffs because you have not faced a tough team. So sounds like both teams are battle tested...then again if you make it this far no matter what your non-district schedule...you have to be an outstanding football team. Here's to a great Class A finals pitting two great tradition-rich programs against each other. :thumb:

I voted for Mayfield because thats where my heart is but in truth nobody at this point really knows how these teams match up and this is more of a popularity contest that no WKY team can win. If Mayfield plays to their strengths and doesn't turn the ball over they will be hard to beat. On the other hand not having seen NCC, I really dont know if Mayfield will have to play over their heads or get lucky breaks to get the victory. Sometime next week I hope to have these anwers.

The new away white jerseys are rather tight. My son can barely get his over the pads.

Thats the way they should be, harder to get a grasp on the jerseys that way. :thumb:

Does anyone know if the games will be broadcast live like they were last year???

This is NCC's year and I don't think they will be denied this time.

Toothpick I would love to see it again...I was hoping the high school station was going to broadcast it Saturday morning but for some reason they didn't...maybe because of the holiday. But that game was a classic and deserves to be seen again as both teams played their hearts out...just glad we came out on top and will play in the pizza box Saturday night.

I don't want to unless you also can PM some anesthesia. I have bourbon but I don't think that'll get it. At least it hasn't so far . . .

Ask and ye shall receive.

They met in the 1986 2A state finals, with Mayfield winning 21-20. Mayfield also beat the 'Breds in the 1985 2A final 18-8.

Those are the only meetings since 1980.

The 1986 game was a classic. The Cardinals scored in overtime to go up 21-14, then gave up a score. NewCath went for two and threw it to TE Frank Jacobs (the first Mr. Football) and the ball was batted away by a Mayfield defender to save the win.

I am pulling for Mayfield because they are publice and would be cool to see them knock off the people proclaimed hottest team right now. An I think they have a real chance however they cant do it running the ball the must throw because New Caths line and linebackers are too fast for i think any team. NCC just needs to play there game to win this one and must score points. If it gets to be close mayfield pulls it out because NEWCATH as nbot done well in close games this season

Close game ,But I got NCC winning on a last second touchdown. 21-14.
