What about the field turf factor? Seems poster on here have commented that NCC should have been moving playoff games to turf fields to take advantage of their speed, but I don't remember NCC having much success on turf with losses to Beechwood and CovCath on that surface. Has Mayfield played on field turf?

 

Mayfield Blasted Murray on Turf at Murray State 49-21, but I think that is their only artificial surface game this season. We finally have RAIN in the forecast for most of next week. On turf I'd think this would effect the NCC throwing game more then Mayfield's ball control running offense.

2. Their OL is very, very strong;

3. On film, you will watch them line up in double tights with huge splits and hand it off. Your scouting report will talk about them lining up in double tights, with huge splits and handing it off. 4. If you cannot tackle one on one, all hope is lost;

5. Don't line up in a 3 man defensive line if your DL is small. You will need 5, maybe 6.

6. If you stunt the wide splits, the OL is smart enough to close it off;

7. Hatchell is a great big fullback but he deosn't keep his head down, he looks for holes, particularly cutback;

8. Speaking of cutback, Mayfield's OL coach has taught his backside blockers they are important to the play and they block like crazy. I'd say half their yardage is through backside holes. BIG holes;

9. Rust and Hatchell are good; the curveball, though, is Dumas. Not scouting him would be an error.

10. Rust is a great LB; if you try and pass and don't account for him, you will be looking at third and long;

11. Don't put your weakest OL vs. #54. He will mess up any pulling guards or traps you are trying to run;

12. You can pass on Mayfield. The trick is deciding to abandon what you've done all season in the 1st quarter and thrown then, because by the time you decide to pass in the 3rd quarter, they are controlling the clock and there's just not time;

13. Mayfield will leave 8 in the box even when you trot out some receivers and make you throw;

14. Your kickoffs need to go deep or in the end zone, certainly farther than the 10, or they will start on the 35 or farther every time;

15. Mayfield's kick coverage is not real good, but their punter is;

16. Coach Morris will gamble, against odds most people don't like;

17. Mayfield's fans are LOUD;

18. Mayfield has history;

19. Mayfield slows the game down, whether you like it or not;

20. Find refs who believe in managing the game, not being visible themselves.

Does Ncc HAVE A DEDICATED website? What's the starting line look like? Size and grade? The line will tell it all. B-town had great speed and talent, but their line was small. Could be very telling. I'm figuring this one to be a toss up. I'm going with Mayfield, in a slugfest, 28-27.

Seems like two contrasting styles seeing as NewCath rarely goes from under center or from a huddle. Looks like Mayfield will want to control the clock while NewCath wants to light up the scoreboard as fast as possible. Will be a definitely interesting game. Looks like NewCath needs to get an early lead to keep Mayfield from running. Of course, NewCath's strength is their rush D. If anything, you can find holes by passing the ball over the middle. This will be fun. NewCath 24-Mayfield 17.

Wow! I will be the first to take my hat off and bow before the Breds if they can throw 40 points on Mayfield but I dont see it happening

I think it will be hard to put 8 in the box and be successful for the entire game. Diehl is an exceptional runner at the QB spot. After looking at statistics it's apparent that the Cards are primarily a running team, I think that bodes well for the Breds, very solid against the run. I think it will be a close game, could go either way.

If the game was being played at the old Cardinal stadium on the carpet it would be...but the prescription field turf does not help speed as it is just like playing on grass on that aspect of it...so the field shouldn't help either team...

Don't underestimate Mayfield's ability to throw the ball...because we have not had to does not mean that we can't...if you crowd the line we have the weapons to beat you deep and over the middle. We have not had to throw the ball as we have had 2nd and short and 3rd and short so many times that you go to the old saying..."If it ain't broke, don't fix it"...and if Mayfield is punishing you running the football they will not get cute and try a quick strike they will just wear you down and frustrate you...that is what the did against Bardstown as you could see it a little as the Tigers were not used to not to playing that much defense and when they got the ball back they felt like they had to rush things and when you do that against Mayfield they will hurt you defensively...and I think alot of people do not give Mayfield credit for having speed of their own...is it Bardstown speed...NO...but it gets the job done can burn you...especially Dumas and Brown. Once again I like the fact that Mayfield will be the underdog in this game...as the one thing that brings out the best in the Cards this year...is them feeling like they have something to prove. Should be another battle of offensive wills. The best thing about this Mayfield team is that they understand the schemes that Coach Lawson (defensive coordinator) puts in to make teams do things that they don't like to do...which helps as Mayfield can give you so many different looks and come from so many different angles and the players are in the right spot and fly to the football. Should be a heck of a game...will be great to renew the old rivalry with the 'Breds and I am sure they would like a little revenge for '85 and '86. Two great teams and two great coaching staffs should equal one great Class A title game...I am just so happy that they will not be playing early in the morning as in years past for the Class A. Playing under the lights is fun...playing under the lights for a state championship....PRICELESS!!!

It appears both defenses will be facing offensive sets that they are not used to seeing.
