We are working on trying to get the game broadcasted on northernkentuckysports.com -- who did the broadcasts last year? Did any local NKY radio station cover the game?

Not sure of the other games, but I'd bet somebody has them.

Here is my best guess at what to expect

 

For Mayfield to win or even have a chance they will have to be able to run the ball some and in order to do that they will have to be able to throw the ball some in order to keep NCC from keying on the run. It will not be necessary for the Cards to light up the airways but they will have to be capable of some passing success. The Cards have actually bee fairlt successful most of the year with play action and short to mid range passes. From what I hear NCC has been prone to giving up some yardage through the airways. I also suspect that our running game will be one of the better they will have faced this year. The past couple of weeks the card have rarely passed simply because we have not had too.

 

On defense the Cards have proven to be one of the best run stoppers in class A. What I wonder is how well we can defend agaist NCC's passing attack. It seems one senior reciever has done most of the damage all year (the recievers name escapes me). The NCC qb is completing around 63% of his throws for the season which is pretty impressive. NCC also has a outstanding back in the Vicars kid who has been the main ground threat. If I were ask where we are the weakest I would say against the pass but we have been very successful against teams that tend to have 1 go to guy. CC is a great example of this. NCC reminds me alot of Hoptown who could do both run and pass well.

After all this is said the game story is likely to go as the turnovers go

 

Schedule wise NCC is different than Btown in that it appears that they have played a schedule that is about the same as the one Mayfield played. I think Mayfields non district schedule is a little tuffer but NCC's district games have been much tougher. Both teams lost to larger class schools by alot. NCC got run off the field by Cov Cath and Mayfield did the same against Marshall Co. Both Cov Cath and Marshall Co were very good football teams this year. NCC also lost to Beechwood by 3 in a game that Beechwood found success through the air. Mayfield faltered to Hoptown and PT but lead both in the fourth quarter before falling. NCC also had a tough battle with Bellview in the regular season but totally dominated them in the playoffs. As for Mayfield, they have been on fire since getting beat by PT at mid season.

That is a pretty good report, i havent seen Mayfield play but from what i have seen on paper and the results of their schedule they matchup well. I think this will be a close game and whoever has the ball last wins.

I too agree with Toothpick's statements.... From everything I see....NCC is favored in this game by a score....somewhere in the neighborhood of 24-17. Again, I think NCC will be tougher than Bardstown and their schedule has been tougher. However, I think our pass defense must play well and I agree with Westsider that we will have to go play action more often to Brown and McCuiston across the middle!

NCC special teams are pretty solid. The WR doubles as the placekicker and punter. Kickoffs in the 10 yard line range, punts average 38-40 yards with good coverage. NCC kick returners are burners. WR Canafax and RB Vickers are both fast and run North-South.

I think NC's only weakness on special teams during the year was on coverage, where they allowed some big returns. Big plays (20+ yards) and bad plays (TO's) will determine the winner in what appears to be an evenly matched final. We're all pulling for the Breds up here in NKY. Can't say enough about Coach Bob's class and character! Go Breds!

I like NCC in this one. Extreme athletic team. Will be the most athletic team Mayfield has faced. They can run the ball extremely well then open up the field like a surgeon with the passing game. Not too mention the defense is very tough alot of kids play both ways.

 

Sounds like Mayfield relies on the run. They won't get it done just running the ball against a speedy physical NCC team ask Lex Christian if you dont believe me. Mayfield says they can pass but the state championship game is a bad time to start trying.

I dont think Mayfield will rely just on the run unless it's successful. Mayfield can pass the ball and will if need be. This thread is similar to the Bardstown thread which went along the lines of "our speed is going to kill you" and "track speed is a wonderfull sight in the open field". Funny thing it didn't happen often enough. NCC has a fine team and I'm looking forward to seeing them and I'm sure Vicars and Biehl are the real deal but we got some deals too. I can't wait to show the deal behind door #1 first.

I have all the respect in the world for NCC and I know they will be a strong challenge to the Cards, but, in all due respect, I think Mayfields played very athletic teams this year in Hopkinsville, Tilghman and Bardstown. They've also played very physical teams in Graves and Marshall..Granted there region isn't the greatest, but Crittenden, Metcalfe, Murray, Hancock and Russellville are probably as good as many of the teams in other regions...they aren't Danville or Beechwood good, but, would compete well with the others, most years. I definately feel the Cards are battle tested, confident and have enough talent in there own right, to pull off the win..

 

As far as passing, the Cards have had to play from behind in several games earlier in the year and there passing game is very adequate..I've heard alot of people talk about Shelton in the play action rollouts, but, usually when he passes, its from the pocket and if he rolls out, he'll run it about 3/4 of the time...They won't beat you with 30-40 yard downfield plays, but, are very effective on the 5 to 15 yard routes and screens and can move the chains with it..
