Boyle County has not yet responded...but they may want to copy the other 4A schools that has...

I agree. Is Boyle going to officially put in a request?

I doubt that they do. Wost case travel time for Boyle is half of what it is for LexCath (Taylor County). Even the LexCath admins know they are likely tilting at windmills.

The 32 limit in 1A and 6A is forcing some really bad structure of districts - 'Districts' that are 2 hours drives? But the real problem is the 6 classes. That is so obvious now. Drop to 5 or go back to 4. Kentucky football structure is taking on the same problems as Kentucky county structure - too many classes, too few teams in each class. This in turn forcing a lot of students to spend a lot of time on buses and for school districts to spend a lot of money on gas and maintenance. Remember these long drives affect JV and Freshman games also. So using the LexCath/Taylor country distance as an example - a freshman student who plays JV and dresses varsity would be on a bus for 12 hours in a week where JV played on Monday and freshman on Thursday if all 3 games are away. And there are examples of other school pairings that are far worse.

Get it back to 4 classes, leverage the local rivalries and get the kids off the buses and save the districts a bunch of money.

Lots of whiners.

They cry and complained about 4 districts and how some were never going to be competitive......now they cry and complain with 6.

Go back to 4, top 3 teams make playoffs and be done with it.

Did no one proofread the response from Betsy Lane? This IS a high school administrator responding correct?

Wow,

Lexington catholic put it is 70 miles to Rockcastle. I travel there all of the time and it is 45 miles from exit 62 to Athens exit. Sounds like you guys are scared of bluebirds.

I have my own spelling and grammar issues, but I really like this sentence from the Betsy Lane response:

"Also, transportation."

I also like this phrase from the Bell County response”

“does not sit well with our school or fans”

What do you think they want?

World Peace!

Dear KHSAA,

Because of travel concerns (Highlands in our class), we respectfully submit that we be placed in Class 5A (no Highlands) and not in Class 4A (with Highlands).

As you can plainly see (Highlands 19 state titles), the travel costs and concerns (Highlands in Class 4A) makes it logical (no Highlands in Class 5A) for our alignment to be changed.

Anything you can do (Please, please, Please, please, Please, please, Please, please, Please, please) would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Insert 4A school here

Nice work Scribe! :laugh::laugh::laugh:

I don't think Bell's response will help their case much because it didn't really address the issue. Not sure the KHSAA cares if the fans are upset or if they have to play unfamiliar district foes or if they lose their "mountain" brand. However, it was a good read.

The main point of Bell County's argument, though was having to go to Lou. Central or E'town (or vice versa) and then having to go to Paducah Tighlman or Fort Campbell (or vice versa). That has got to be changed if you ask me. You can't expect a school to drive 7 hours for a game.

Which district could District 4 be switched with to make it better? 5, with Garrard, Estill, Powell, etc.? 6, with Mason and the Carters? 7 or 8, with Breathitt, Belfry, Sheldon Clark, etc.? Certainly Bell is in a bad spot, but the KHSAA doesn't have a district to put with District 3 to fix the situation.

The fix seems to have created as many if not more problems than the original 6 class alignment.

More legitimate issues than the 6A arugments, to be sure.

Bell is closer in the current proposal to teams they could play in the state Championship (Breathit, Pike Central, Belfry) than they are to their own district (Wayne and Casey). Makes no sense!!! I would hope that the brains in the KHSAA could look at a map and see that is a huge problem????? How many fans does anyone think will make the trip to Bell from Central or PT for a game or vise versa?
