I'm more concerned with the Reds making Maholm look like Sandy Koufax tonight. Seems like he has all-star stuff against the Reds.

I understand what you're saying and your point is well taken. Janish may hit .160 over four or six weeks or he may hit .280. I do know he has a .370 OBP this year(yes, small sample size) and has had games where he was more than adequate at the dish. He has the ability to fill in nicely for 30 or 40 games. I'm hoping he excels.

 

I can only hope you are right but I just go back to last year when the job was his to lose and what did the Red's brass do before Spring training started? They went out and signed a shortstop.

That was going to be my suggestion as well. Start Heisey in CF again and then put him in the two hole. I think it would be a decent option, and move Janish down to the 8th spot.

That can fall apart very quickly with the Cards coming to town next week and then a "Huge" west coast swing. They need to win the division because there are several teams that are going to push for the wildcard and to do that they need to play a little better than .500 the rest of the season.

Losing Cabrera is only a slight concern. Janish can play well for a few weeks. We know he can pick it. They seem to think Votto will be back today too. I'd hold him out one more day and let Cairo get some more swings in.

If Cabrera is DL'd which is highly likely, who do the Red's bring up? Zach Cozart has been playing shortstop @ Louisville and batting in the 2 hole.

That is a pretty solid statistic. I remember talking to my buddy right before the all-star break and made a comment about how I don't remember the Reds ever winning this many series before.

If Dusty chooses to go with Janish @ short everyday which will probably be his decision, the call up will back him up. I think Janish has to hit 8th where there will be no pressure on him to do the things that they have had the veteran OC doing. But in my mind that creates a dilemna for Dusty because if he decides to bat Heisey in the 2 hole he has to pretty much play him everyday. I don't have a problem with that but Dusty has been somewhat stubborn with wanting to play Stubbs everyday. Here is what I would do with the whole situation. If Cabrera gets DL'd which looks imminent I would call up Zach Cozart to be the backup shortstop and then (1) send Stubbs to Louisville because he needs to work his way out of his problems and (2) call Chris Dickerson up. I would immediately insert Dickerson into centerfield versus righties and put him in the leadoff spot moving Phillips to the 2 hole where he started the season. Heisey would then go into a platoon with Dickerson and Bruce playing against all lefties. Janish would be the everyday shortstop with Cozart spelling him on occasion and Janish and Cozart hitting 8th. On days when Dickersdon was not in the lineup and Heisey played I would bat Heisey leadoff. I would not mess with the order anymore than I had to.

I think he was in the upper 230's a few weeks back. You guys are lamenting his loss like it was A-Rod that just went down. Janish is probably an even better glove and has hit about as well or better this year. Give him a shot for awhile.

Considering how well Maholm has pitched against the Reds over the past three years, Koufax might be preferable.

Janish has no business batting second. I think Cozart should get the call..

I don't mind Janish in the lineup but having him in the 2 hole is definitely a mistake.
