Track the Reds (2nd Half, Week 4)

Featured Replies

Well the Cards just lost to the Astros, so the Reds are back in 1st. They would have first shot over the Reds now.

They have Aviles who is cheaper, I wouldn't be shocked to see them dump the salary.

Is he in the last year of his contract?

Could be, or they could go with Drew Sutton who would give them a switch hitter, and speed off the bench.

Other potential options:

Jack Wilson

Jhonny Peralta

Clint Barmes

Cesar Izturis

Julio Lugo

Ty Wigginton (would have to play BP at SS though)

Janish can't hit at all.

Not true. If he played regularly or semi-regularly, he would average somewhere around where Cabrera is IMO. What is Orlando hitting at present? I don't think Paul would be a huge dropoff. He would hit you .240-.250 and give you Gold Glove caliber play in the field. Not a bad player.

I think they'll likely bring up Sutton and play Janish with Sutton giving him a couple days off here and there.

I'm going with Valaika, your taking Sutton, LRCW says Cozart.

Well I just checked, and Cozart is not on the 40 man roster while Valaika is. That will certainly influence Walt's decision.

Janish has a career average of .216, until he proves other wise over a long period of time I have no reason to think he won't be what his baseball cards says.

I'm not saying Cozart, I just gave some options. With Cozart not being on the 40 man roster, I'm going with Sutton or Valaika.

I think the smart move would be Cozart. However, not being on the 40 would cause problems, so I think they'll go with the guy that they know what they'll get with, and that's Sutton.

I have no problem with them giving some everyday playing time to Janish though.

Why would Cozart be smarter than Valaika?

Let's say it is Sutton, and Janish gets the majority of the time at SS. Who do you put in the # 2 hole? Heisey? Janish? How about seeing what Bruce can do hitting in front of Votto?

Well it would depend on who is going to get the majority of the playing time. Cozart is a much better fielder than Valika from everything I've read.
