retropop
After another spring in which quite a few girls' basektball coaches have resigned, it's obvious to see that there just aren't many "lifer" coaches in the business anymore. To name a couple, veterans Tommy Adams and Howard Beth have gone into retirement for various reasons, but how about others who have been in the business for 20-25 years or more and are still with it? New blood is needed and good, but experienced coaches who still have their energy and fire are difficult to beat - and that can be taken literally and figuratively. Will the newcomers bring with them the long-term consistent effort to toil in the gyms while performing in and enduring the ever-increasing demands in the classrooms? The kids need and deserve dedicated and committed coaches for extended periods of time. Let's list some ladies and gentlemen coaches, complete with their gray hair and/or whiskers, who are still "soldiering on" and have not hung up their whistles. Come on, now, let's give them their due!

MountainThunder
Coach Roy Bowling. Old Roy won 4 state titles at Laurel County, went to Mercy for a few years than retired. Came out of retirement a few years ago and is coaching in Laurel County at North Laurel. Has rebuilt the program into being a competitive team the past few years. He brought Rex Fredericks, his long time assistant at Laurel Co and former NL head coach, out of retirement to coach along side him. I think he will retire for the final time in the next few years, but seems to still be enjoying it.

retropop
A lot of coaches would be lifers if not for inept administrators. Depending upon how one reads into your comment, this can be taken more than one way, h-1. Do you mean that inept administrators frustrate coaches out of the business ... or ... Do you mean that coaches leave the gym in order to become inept administrators? My guess is that many times the ineptitude begins at the building and extends to the cetnral office, but more and more it leads to to Frankfort, lsort of like the yellow brick road, and the legislative blunders that are perpetrated there (but that's another story for another day). However, those coaches who have ridden it out for the long haul, particularly at one school, have in all likelihood benefitted greatly from very fine administrators within that school and community. So, to be fair, it cuts both ways, because there are some outstanding administrators out there in a number of places (and often times they are former coaches!).
