Holmes next coach will be......

Featured Replies

Coach Wimzie was the glue that kept that program together, he'd be a great choice for head coach.

I agree. However, I have always had the impression that Coach Wimzie is not interested in the head coaching position. B.T.W. I am friends with some Cov. Cath. players who competed against Coach Wimzie, Doug Schloemer, etc. from the dynamite Holmes squads of the mid-to-late-70's. My friends suggest that as good as Doug Schloemer was (and he was darn good) Bud Wimzie was the player the Colonels had the most problem containing.

Even if he isn't offered or isn't interested I'd guess he'll be an assistant. I would hope so at least.

I knew you were. I just threw Reynolds out there for the old-timers.

Loved the red blazer. Reynolds was the "man".

Sullivan is way too young and inmature for a major coaching job, unless he has changed big time since leaving the Mason County/St.Patrick area.

What's his record as a head coach?

I would say the last two years at Cooper have matured him considerably.

Like taking another head coaching position, getting married, and having a child? Or possibly building a program from scratch?

Excellent assesment. I think Sullivan would do well at Holmes.

What's his record as a head coach?

Considering his last two years with a new program in a tough 6A division, his win/loss record is not a true evaluation of how good of a coach he is. From looking at the progress his teams are making at Cooper with the amount of talent given, Sullivan could do just fine at any of the NKY high school programs.

I like watching high school basketball but I don't follow it like I do baseball or football. So, leaving the x's and o's asside as to who should be coach I will add the following. When Cooper played at Holmes last year in football, coach Sullivan was at the game and there must have been every kid from Holmes come up and greet him and the basketball players (Pittman, Johnson's, etc..) all stuck with him all night and shot the bull. So from the players side I could tell they really respect him and he would probably do a great job.

I think you are in the minority with your thinking here. These are highschool jobs not major college positions. Coach Sullivan has plenty of experience and is not young by any stretch. He is in his early 30s and has a wife and family and seems very mature.

I vote for Mr. Sullivan if he wants the job. He would do well at Holmes.

Many coaches throughout the state are inquiring about this position. I personally like Coach Sullivan for the position. I believe he has the demeanor and knowledge to get the best out of all future Bulldogs with the support of the remaining basketball staff.

Before we all get caught up in one of the "top teams in the state" and "has the potential to win state," may I remind you that starting next season the Holmes Bulldogs will become a Division II program.

I have to think that they are going to be D-II for a reason other than that their enromment is slipping. 800 kids is still a lot of kids. I think they made this move at this time because the talent pool drops off somewhat, and whoever takes this job is looking at a rebuilding/reloading scenerio.

If they were still riding the wave and were potentiial state contenders, I really doubt they would have taken the drop in class to D-II.

What does them being a "DII program" have to do with anything? WIth all due respect Mr. Mustang, you couldn't be more wrong in your thinking on this one.

I realize you're upset about the "new competition" being a team that can legitimately win DII and beat your team every year, but no need to make accusations that they only dropped down because of the supposed drop off in talent.

Holmes actually made the drop because of their other sports such as baseball, soccer, and girls basketball.

The uninformed might think that Holmes is now going to be in a "rebuilding stage" because of the loss of the Johnson Brothers and Pittman, but don't be fooled. They have plenty coming through the next 5 or 6 years to not only be a region contender every year, but also a top 15-20 team in the state.

Everyone thought they were going to drop off after the c/o 2007 graduated and all they did was make it to back to back state championships the following two years. There's a reason Holmes is considered one of the top programs in the state...they simply reload every year.

I know this is going to come out of left field but has anyone thought about former Bryan Station coach Champ Ligon possibly inquiring about the job?
