Holmes next coach will be......

Featured Replies

The choice would be Carr if it were mine. Already arguably the best coach in N. KY.

I hope he gets it.

"Whoever takes this position better be prepared to get worn down and I mean WORN down year in year out."

Q, What does this mean? Please explain!

Basically what I meant was that Coach Henley certainly wont have many of the stresses he had over the past 13 season down at North Oldham. Specifically worrying about who is going to show up for games, whether or not things are going to happen on road trips in hotels, collecting uniforms after games to make sure they return, etc. I have heard from reliable sources that these are daily things that the Holmes coaching staffs from 7th-12th grade deal with and when your the head of all of those staffs it can wear on you for sure. Look at the embarrassment he dealt with in the finals this year with Pittman and his antics. The next coach better be a good fit who can deal with many of the problems that come with inner city schools.

Why is nobody seemingly talking up Bud for the job? I think he would be a great fit and has paid his dues as an assistant. I will also say Sully would be a great hire and I truly don't believe the job will get any further than those two. TIFWIW

I've been saying this since my first post in this thread.

I think the biggest question though, is does Bud actually want the job?

Can he be the head coach without also holding a teaching position? I think this was an issue before.

I'm pretty sure he works in the Covington Independent Schools system, but not sure where.

I seem to remember him being a gym teacher at one of the elementary schools?

He honestly deserves it if he wants it.

It is very simple. Has Wimzie been a varsity head coach and does have a winning record as a varsity head coach? At some schools, experience is not a factor. However, at Holmes, I have to believe the starting point in the screening process for the next coach is a winning record as a varsity head coach. I would be very surprised if there aren't numerous applications from winning varsity head coaches for this job.

On the flip side though, look who beat Wimzie out 13 years ago when he applied for the job. The experience is there and he's obviously been one of the key reasons for Henley's success. A head coach as only as good as his assistants.

Watch a Holmes basketball practice and you'll see why Wimzie's name is being thrown out there as one of the better candidates.

There are several jobs that he could've tried for over the years but instead elected to stay put at Holmes.

Of the two candidates mentioned most on here one has no head coaching expeirence and one is nowhere near a winning record. I'm sure they'll get a lot of good applicants. I'd just be surprised if it isn't Bud or Sullivan.

Coach Wimzie is a great mentor and coach! He will always be a key member of the basketball staff if he chooses to do so. With that said, I am sure the school district is going to hire a certified person for this position. There have been a handful of coaches throughout the state that have contacted CIPS about this position. I look for a committee to be established, applicants will be narrowed down, and a handful will be interviewed. I believe the final decision will be made by the Principal, AD, and Superintendent based upon who will be the best fit for the population of students CIPS serves.

What are the chances Coach Henley has a say in who the final decision comes down to? He is an admin at Holmes so I'd assume he'd atleast have some say in it.

Isn't he the principal at the Vocational School?

As great as the Holmes teams have been in the recent past, the last 9th Region team to run the table against 9th Region opponents was the '04 Cov. Cath. squad. (Which is not to say they ran the table against Northern Kentucky opponents, since Brossert came in to Park Hills on Senior night in '04 and throttled the Colonels.)

Whoever takes Coach Henley's spot will have some pretty big shoes to fill.

2004 CCH team lost to Brossart at Brossart in mid to late December. They had just lost to Cincy St. X a few days before at the Cintas Center.

Cov Cath did not lose at home that year.
