Is the head coach the only coach allowed to call a timeout from the bench in basketball? I'm getting conflicting answers on the internet and wonder if it is different from state to state. Some things show that a assistant can call one and others say head coach only.

Why is nobody seemingly talking up Bud for the job? I think he would be a great fit and has paid his dues as an assistant. I will also say Sully would be a great hire and I truly don't believe the job will get any further than those two. TIFWIW

Congrats to Newport for a fine season. The whipping they gave Holmes was a perferct storm situation - Newport probably could not have played any better and Holmes could not have played any worse. Any time a team shoots 9/45 or 20% they better lose. That is why you lace them up you never know what will happen.

Keys to this game were 20+ turnovers for Graves and Josh Forrest from Tilghman (supposed to be one of the top Juniors in the state) goes 7 of 9 down the stretch from the foul line (Forrest shooting 38% from the foul line for the season - thats right 38%).

Three names that should be included Riley, Dom Johnson, and Housley - they were the difference between this years team and last years State Champs - They were badly missed!

If you listened and did not think they were you must be a Boone Fan. I've listened to the CovCath guys for a few years now and even when Holmes plays them they call a better game and are not as biased as these guys even though it is their home team. Just sounds to me that everybody is tired of the Holmes dominance and are rooting for them to get beat.

If Holmes wins does anybody have another radio site to listen to championship. These Tri-State guys are killing me with their favoritism of Boone. Defended the Boone Assistant for getting Td up in 1st. but saying Pittman deserved the T after putback dunk.

Hope Henley blisters their (players) butt. Holmes playing like crap!

Are the radio guys for tri-state homers for Boone? All they can do is complain about the officals and talk about Holmes players fouling and such.

Anybody out there who can give some updates to those of us who don't live in the Fox 19 viewing area?

At what point after the football is hiked (or kicked off or punted) can a coach call a timeout during the middle of a play? When can a baseball coach stop a live ball in play and stop a runner from making a dumb baserunning blunder etc. Make players accountable for their actions and reactions to situations and to have to listen to their coach for instruction.

Tried to make that point earlier in a post and got criticized for it. Glad to see somebody else agrees. Coaches being able to call time outs during live ball situations penalizes the defense so many times. If a player puts him/her self in a bad position and defense helps force it, then why should Coach be able to bail them out. Make players accountable for their own actions.

I hate that the Coach can call time out from the bench and bail out players who have gotten into trouble because of good defense such as 5 second calls or loose ball situations. Leave the game in the hands of the kids and let them decide the outcome. I've seen coaches tell refs to call time out after made free throws and such. The coach should be teaching the game to kids to learn basketball situations and when they should call timeouts. The coach is in control and not players. The PLAYERS should learn game and to look to coach for timeouts instruction and have to call for them.

Trust me they did not lose to a bad team. Holmes gave the game away but Bowman Academy would easily be a top ten if not top five in the state of Kentucky.

Holmes is going to struggle for a bit until they learn how to play without Riley, Housley, and Dom Johnson. Those three, although they weren't the headliners, were very good experienced players. Holmes has alot of young players without alot of varsity experience stepping into roles that they have to learn and the big three of JJ, Rico, and Pittman have to learn they are the leaders and their is nobody to fall back on. They must take the bull by the horns.

At this point in the pre-season Holmes is not the same team that cut down the nets at Rupp. You do not lose the like of Riley, Housley, and Dom Johnson all three very experienced seniors and very quality basketball players and replace them with Mayfield, Slusher, D. Avery (who is new to the Holmes system) and McClendon who saw no real quality varsity time last year. With that being said they are all very fine athletes and will come along just fine. Is Holmes going to be a better team come March than right now? I think they will be just fine. Holmes coaches have brought younger players along just fine over the years. With the like of Ricardo, JJ, and Pitman leading the way Holmes will look to make a deep run again in March.

My source at the game tells me Holmes was actually leading the first half with 4 minutes to go when Ricardo Johnson sprained his ankle and left the game. Things fell apart for the rest of half as Holmes tried to adjust without their leader. Holmes was leading second half with about a minute to go and GRC pulled out a second half win by two. Score somewhat misleading as Holmes played without possible Mr. Basketball Rico for 2 1/2 quarters. Sounds like GRC is solid. Holmes not same team without Rico.

Lone Oak is not building a new school, but it is McCracken Co. who is building a new school that will consolidate Lone Oak, Heath, & Reidland High Schools into one school for grades 10-12.
