Pray tell who replaces them in the region?

 

I've heard this before about Clinton County and Russell County moving out, and it's even less realistic now than it was then. The deficiency will exist in the west. The 4th Region will almost certainly be losing one school in Todd County Central, and it remains to be seen if more drastic actions would be needed to help out other regions. I just can't see them shipping two schools east when there is not the need there.

 

Green County replaces Clinton. I have no response for Russell County.

Not sure how it would affect the regions south of the 10th but if all of CC moved into the 10th, I could see it this way.

 

37th Highlands, Newport, Dayton, Bellevue, NCC

If the Kenton schools leave with the addition of the CC schools, it could play out like this.

Not sure they would do that last one in the 38th as Silver Grove does not always field a girl's team and would leave that district with 3 schools. I can see them wanting to keep 5 schools in that district in case Silver Grove does not field a team, the district still has 4 in post season.

That's the point. These counties want out, but there are needs in the west that supersede the needs of Clinton County and Russell County. Also, I think it'd be Russell County lifting out before Clinton County.

Do you mean the independent school districts? Newport, Bellevue, and Dayton? Or CCHS, which is already in the 10th?

Buckhorn and the two Harlan County schools in the same district wouldn't be logistically feasible. Buckhorn is located in northern Perry County, about 15 miles from my county seat, Booneville in Owsley County. It would be well over a two hour drive to get to those schools from Buckhorn. If that's a regional game I suppose it would be acceptable, but not for a district game. And if the district is seeded all teams would have to play one another twice.

I know what you're saying, but it's time that they are in different districts again. HC had their best runs when Holmes was moved. I'm not crying or anything, but it seems there are several years when HC is one of the top 4 in the region, but Holmes or CovCath seems to be 1 or 2.

As a CovCath fan GREAT, but it isn't going to happen!

I know Fleming Co. wants to move back to 39th Dist. and 10th Region. Not wanting to throw a wrench into some peoples plans, but them moving back is a very distinct possibility.

I can't see the merit in moving Caldwell before moving Trigg or Crittenden. Lyon County is the only county in the new 1st Region that they would share a border with, while Trigg and Crittenden would border at least two. I think either of them would go first, even moreso when you consider that Dawson Springs spans Hopkins and Caldwell counties. I think it would be a much better situation to move Crittenden, move McLean into your 5th District, and move Caldwell into the 6th with the rest of their natural opponents.

I respectfully disagree, knowing the geography of the area better than you do because of my proximity to it.

 

Crittenden is a natural fit with Henderson, Webster and Union, just as Caldwell is a better fit with Marshall, Lyon and Livingston. If you were outlining those districts, they have more of a block shape.

 

Caldwell's "natural" rivals are their old 5th District opponents ... Lyon, Livingston, Crittenden and Trigg. Plus, Marshall and Caldwell have played each other numerous times in the past in various sports, but the Marshals have rarely met Crittenden in any sport.

The 3rd Region would share the same problem as the old 4th, that being the massive distance from end to end.

I don't disagree. But the new four-lane road from Cadiz to Bowling Green makes that travel much easier than it was in the past.

 

Besides, if we're going to keep roughly the same number of teams in each region, we're going to have some long trips from end-to-end.

Ultimately as you start going further east, I think you would see that you're going to end up in extremely similar problems to what you have now, only different faces on those problems, and you're going to upset longstanding traditions to boot for little gain. I just don't see the advantages.

I wish they would. The Fleming-Mason rivalry in basketball (and in football, for that matter) has lost a bit of its luster.

Try this on for size. It isn't perfect, but the geography is about as close as I can get it, and no counties should be divided with the exception of Jefferson County (6/7), and then Letcher Central in the 14th and Jenkins in the 15th.

 

I'm certainly not as well-versed as others on the geography and roads, but look at this holistically and see if it might work:

I'm not a Clark County friend, but I think in the next alignment geography will most likely beat tradition. There just aren't enough schools to make things even.
