Your model has some very good ideas but I don't like the thought of Owsley County moving to the 13th, and in a 5 team district at that. I know there will have to be moves made because some regions have 20 teams and others have 15, but I'd just hate to see Owsley moved out of the 56th and the 14th. Call it sentimental reasons. We've been in the 14th since the beginning of the KHSAA.

And we would be the most northern school in the 13th, meaning we would have to travel some long distances to play other region teams. In the district we're now in our biggest rival, Lee County, is only 10 miles away.

I'm looking at who was on the Board of Control four years ago, and I don't see who all these schools are that got better situations.

One strange move they made was to place North and South Laurel in separate districts. That didn't make sense to me. Both schools are located in London.

Pineville getting out of a district with Bell Co. is one. At the time Knox Central wasn't very good and P'ville ended up winning a district or 2 because of this. Had they been in Bell's district they wouldn't have won. Also I think the guy who was on the board of control from Somerset was instrumental in moving the Laurel Co. schools. No one is going to admit to doing this to help their schools in their area, but that is my opinion on what is happening.

Will any of this actually happen?

 

Everything here is pure speculation. Something major is going to have to happen, it's anyone's guess as to what. But these are educated guesses.

So are there changes definetly coming?

I'd like to see a couple of the 7th region powers switched to the 6th region. Geographically I don't know where all the schools are at and how that would work, but I think it would be nice.

 

I'd like to see the 11th region split up a bit like Louisville and Northern Ky is. All the good teams in central KY are in 1 region except for Clark Co and West Jessamine.

 

I'm not sure how I feel about this yet, but I could see moving Harlan Co. and Harlan City to the 14th region and moving Rockastle back into the 13th, which has already been mentioned on here. They could also move McCreary Central into the 13th. If the region is going to be at Corbin that wouldl be pretty centralized for nearly everyone. Harlan has a long trip to Corbin and vice versa. That would also create more room to move some 11th region teams into the 12 region like maybe Mad. Central or even Lafayette and Dunbar for example.

Prof, when I posted this last night I immediately thought of you. In retrospect, I would probably put Owsley back in the 14th, playing in their same district as of now. I might keep Wolfe there too, or perhaps move them in with the Breathitt schools.

Yes, there definitely are. The major reason we know this is because of the consolidation and school closings in some of the western regions. Once McCracken County opens, the 1st Region would only have 14 schools. The 2nd & 3rd Regions already only have 15, as do the 15th & 16th Regions. The goal of the KHSAA is that each district have a minimum of 4 teams and thus a minimum of 16 in each region. They will move heaven and earth to make that happen.

Please don't seperate Lee and Owsley. We don't have much left here, but we can only hope we will always have each other.:confused:

I agree BadCat. Owsley and Lee in different districts just wouldn't seem right. County seats 10 miles apart and many people from each county married to one another. They're like sister counties IMO.

 

These are just models that some of the members are drawing up for discussion. But something somewhere has to eventually give. There's going to be moves and just like the last re-alignment, some will be happy and some won't.

How about

 

District 38 Brossart, Campbell, Highlands, Silver Grove, Pendleton (Possible Tourny Site @ Campbell)

District 39 Deming, Augusta, Harrison County, Bracken (Possible Tourny Site @ Bracken)

District 40 Mason County, Nicholas, Fleming County, St. Patrick (Possible Tourny Site @ Mason)

 

It would bring Fleming into the 10th and bring Rowan from the 62nd to the 61st, it also brings back some 10th region rivalries too.

The 47th will be adding Somerset Christian as well.

Here is my prediction. Taking into consideration of trying to have equal teams in each district. There doesn't need to be a situation where the district championship game is also the region championship game every year. That is what the 13th has had for a while now.

 

Here is what I think taking into consideration sizes of school having close to eqaul number of each in the districts and also location.

 

49th - North, Jackson Co., South, OBI, Clay Co.

50th - Wburg, Whitley, Corbin, Lynn Camp

51st - Bville, Knox, Harlan, Harlan Co

52nd - Mboro, Bell, Pineville, Red Bird
