Not to the extent of Bobby Knight. Do you know of any who have pulled the same stunts he has? Choking, chair throwing, the rape reference thing, etc...

Knight said Cal put two schools on probation. UMASS was never put on any type of probation. Memphis was never put on probation, and has a very good chance to win their appeal. Knight's hatred for UK got the best of him, and forced him to distort the facts. Like most UK haters, their facts are distorted and/or embellished in many, many cases. Feel a little bit sorry for this "seen better days" coach. He tried to get a barb in, and made himself look like an idiot.

UK would have no say in the matter, and why in the world would ESPN want to avoid the publicity that it would create?

UK will have plenty to say about it and most likely already has.

What sources have you seen on Memphis' appeal? Everything I've read said their appeal is going no where.

We let's start with this, Memphis did nothing wrong. The school was told by the very people who took away their banner that the player in question was eligible to play basketball. I have heard lots of experts on CBB talk about how absurd and wrong the NCAA is with regards to this situation. Guess we are reading different things.

From my understand, the liklihood they get their Final Four and wins back will likely not happen.

But with their appeal, I've seen that they will not be on probation - just lose the wins, appearances.

No he wouldn't. He would tell you how much the nature of college basketball has changed. How the kids in today's game have changed. If the game hadn't passed by the old man he would still be coaching.

For sure he would tell you the culture of today's game has drastically changed.

The game itself really hasn't.

The game has not passed Bobby Knight by, it is the outside the lines stuff that he has no tolerance for.

Obviously, I think that is what he meant. It had nothing to do with the x's and o's part of the game that was the problem.

But in today's age, you cannot win enough just simply with that.

Marcus Camby put UMass on probation and Derek Rose the same with Memphis. Cal hasnt put anyone on probation.

This is it in a nutshell.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but the NCAA would have never known about the Camby case if Calipari hadn't self reported once he discovered what Camby had done. That case would have been a non-issue. How is that a lack of integrity Mr. Knight?

Cal gets blasted for crap he isn't responsible for. The Rose issue is more of an indictment of the NCAA Clearinghouse than it is Calipari. He's more of a scapegoat for their mistake than anything else.

And BTW, Coach Knight would have played Rose after he was cleared, just like Calipari did.

Knight has some integrity I suppose, but he has no morals. His antics of choking and kicking players, throwing chairs, berating officials and the media (and his fans that try to speak to him on elevators) was an embarrassment to his school and the game of basketball. Not to mention his international embarrassments when representing the USA when he nearly got in a fistfight with a police officer in Peurto Rico.

I have no respect for this jerk, and had 10 times rather have a son play for Calipari than a browbeating Bob Knight.

I don't care what Bobo says and does. If this was a coach that had a perfect past I might be able to understand it but with Bobo I really don't care.

He's a tough old school coach. But there are two things you can't say about Bob Knight:

1. He has never been forced to forfeit a final four

2. His players graduate

And those are two things you can't say about Calipari. I wouldn't be shocked if UK had as many as 6 players on their team right now that don't graduate.

There are some other things you can't say either:

1. Respects others or authority.

2. Humility.

You didn't say his coach was sleeping with students, partying with students, having outside sources (boosters) give gifts or money to recruits, doing drugs or offering drugs to the players....

Personally I think there are worse things than a little discipline. You can color it any way you want, I know times have changed. But do you honestly think the old-timers didn't take their belts off sometimes and whip players at halftime for a poor performance? No way you could do this stuff today, it would be on YouTube before the team took the court for the second half.

The game has passed Bobby Knight by, I agree, but he ran a good, clean program at IU and TTU. His track record speaks for itself. He managed to win Nat'l Titles in '81 and '87 when he didn't have the most talented team in the field. Sure, they were upset several times, but I think all in all his teams overacheived because he got the most out of what he had. At times he was probably his own worst enemy because players had to be mentally tougher to play for him.

Choking a player in practice is not discipline.

Slamming table and telephone at midcourt to "get your way" is not discipline. (see 1987 Regionals if you need to remember)

Throwing a chair across a floor in front of the player shooting FT's is not discipline.

Cuffing an opposing coach at midcourt in front of your home crowd and in the middle of a rout is NOT discipline.

Maybe we all need to recover just what that word means and how it relates to the way we behave. :idunno:

See, I wonder about that thought. Hasn't it changed over time like everything else? It's not like Isaiah Thomas played 10 years ago. His final season in Bloomington was nearly 30 years ago. He was a different culture for Knight.

Bobby also moaned about Juco players and would never touch those guys. But seemed to get Keith Smart out of that pile and it got him a title. Amazing how those stalwart convictions can turn when he sees them as a benefit rather than a curse.
