December 18, 200916 yr I like Bob Knight too much for this to really bother me. He's not exactly lying you know... Yup, Truth hurts.
December 18, 200916 yr Bobby's mind was never right after Joe B hit him on the head with a program.
December 18, 200916 yr I like Bob Knight too much for this to really bother me. He's not exactly lying you know... Yup, Truth hurts. Please name me one coach who wouldn't have taken Rose after clearinghouse cleared him. Oh wait, Tubby Smith.
December 18, 200916 yr Bobby's mind was never right after Joe B hit him on the head with a program. That's backwards isn't it? But Bobby is still not right.
December 18, 200916 yr I am a diehard Big Blue fan. I love what Coach Cal has brought to UK. However, anyone being honest with themselves realizes that there is a shadow that follows him around from UMass and Memphis. I know that he couldn't control Camby taking gifts from an agent, ... I realize that he couldn't control Rose allegedly not taking his own SAT exam and that NCAA Clearinghouse ruled him eligible and didn't actually have to prove that Rose did not take the exam, he was asked to prove that it was him. I know those things are not directly his fault. However, it may speak to the some of the types of recruits he has gone after over the years. I don't fault him for what those kids did, BUT that is the fallout from recruiting some high caliber players, ... there is an increased potential for baggage. UK wasn't willing to overlook that when they hired Billy Clyde. After that debacle, they changed their stance. With that being said, I do find it humorous (to some extent) that Knight, who rarely recruited top notch recruits as, IMHO, he had to be the star of his team. He enjoys being in the limelight as does Calipari. However, they just handle their time there MUCH differently. Calipari recruits high caliber players who could possibly have some baggage. Knight slaps, headbutts and choked his players into submission. BUT, they did graduate a high percentage. Right now, Knight has the bully pulpit and will say what he wants, when he wants, about who he wants and as often as he wants. That is who he is and what he is about, keeping the attention focused on him and his opinions. A brilliant basketball coach whose style forced him into mediocrity as he did not change as the landscape of college hoops has changed. He has said things about UK before and will do so again. It isn't just because it is UK, ... it is because he is 'The General' and it wouldn't be becoming of him to handle himself any other way. This too shall pass. Knight wouldn't let them leave. He put the kids who considered it in a sleep hold.
December 18, 200916 yr Knight wouldn't let them leave. He put the kids who considered it in a sleep hold. As a parent, I could appreciate that. Life isn't easy.
December 18, 200916 yr As a parent, I could appreciate that. Life isn't easy. You want your son put in a sleeper hold so his coach can be in the limelight? Okay...
December 18, 200916 yr Bob Knight started coaching at IU when Rupp was still the coach at UK. The fact is UK was basically given the death penalty in 1953 as they were not even allowed to play in the NCAA regular or post season. Rupp was not even suspended by UK for this. 1989-90, 1990-91 UK wasn't allowed to play in the NCAA tournament. Cliff Hagen and Eddie Sutton were forced out. Emery Package with $1,000 for Chris Mills and Eric Manuel caught cheating on the college entrance exam. John Calapari is the only coach in the history of NCAA basketball to have 2 different teams stripped of final four appearances. And quite possibly three...
December 18, 200916 yr And quite possibly three... That is stretching it there, and there isn't any room for that unless something substantial comes out about anything involving it - if it even happens.
December 18, 200916 yr Classic Coach Knight  Despite his antics, I have always liked Bobby Knight and this is an example of why. He speaks his mind and he doesn't care if what he has to say is PC or not. It doesn't matter if he is right or wrong, he sticks to his convictions and he don't care who it ticks off. Yeah, he loses control of his emotions and is not politically correct, ever, but I think he has solid principles and integrity. I would be willing to bet he actually feels that way or he wouldn't have said it and it has nothing to do with any anti-UK bias. JMO. I respect your opinion Watusi but it's not a matter of PC IMO. You say the above, so it means he can fabricate anything he likes in his mind to justify his thoughts and then spew them out as fact? Sorry, that's not about being PC, that's about having real psychotic issues that he handles through denial and personal demagoguery. (sp?) He prefers to rail at the Joe Hall's, John Calipari's of the world rather than look in his own actions and irresponsible leadership. (see his antics) He castigated and hated the media but now finds himself one and it's okay to just say what "he thinks" as provable fact. Where I come from that's called slander. :thumb::walk:
December 18, 200916 yr Bobby's mind was never right after Joe B hit him on the head with a program. You do know that incident was the other way around, don't you? And it was Knight's hand cuffing Hall's head, not a program.

The 1953 probation was about the point shaving scandals more than anything. It was not about recruiting violations like the '89 situation.
December 18, 200916 yr However, I also remember talking to former UK coach Joe Hall before UK’s game at Indiana last week about Knight. “Our first four games, he beat me and loved me. Then we won eight of 12 and he didn’t like me. He loved me the first four. We went fishing together, coached in the Olympic Trials together. One time we had a stretch where we won six of seven and he didn’t like that at all. His friendship depended on him beating me,” Hall said. And that tells you a lot about the former coach who took the cheap shot at Calipari and then “bravely” walked away without explaining it. Vaught's View.
December 18, 200916 yr I will guarantee you this, you will not see Bobby Knight in Lexington for gameday! No way UK & ESPN will let that happen now. UK would have no say in the matter, and why in the world would ESPN want to avoid the publicity that it would create?

His players graduate And those are two things you can't say about Calipari. I wouldn't be shocked if UK had as many as 6 players on their team right now that don't graduate.
