We're thinking about tearing down the school buildings and using that for parking space.

Highlands could handle the championship game. Just open up a second hamburger tent and make double the hot chocolate.

 

They could do parking like they do for the Derby -- Let the local residents sell spots in their driveway or front yard.

The way it is set up now in my opinion you will see either ST.X or Trinity in the 6A finals every year and every other year St.X vs Trinity in the finals. Since the new class system was put into place three years ago this is the way it has been. I just dont see any 6A public schools in Ky that can compete with them right now.

How so? Simon Kenton was in the 6A finals last year against Trinity, and Ryle (now 6A, then 4A) played against Trinity (now 6A, then 4A) in 2006.

 

 

...and as a correction to my post #105, I checked the past winners listing on the KHSAA's website, and Ryle, Scott County, Male and Simon Kenton have made a combined 6 appearances in the "top-class" championship game. I can't believe I left out Simon Kenton - mea culpa.

If everyone is saying that it is all about the kids, then why dont they split the games up in half. Play 3 in Louisville and 3 in Western on the same Saturday. That way many kids are not missing classes and will not have to worry about playing on a Friday at possibly 11AM.

 

With that being said Lexington will never be able to host a state football championship game until they get some turf on their field. As long as it is grass, the KHSAA would not take the risk of a decent rain event in the few days leading up to 6 games being played in a two-day span on a grass field. By the time the second day comes around the field would be all torn up and would cause havoc on everyone.

I looked up the finals teams and results for 6A formally 4A for the past 20 years, 19/20 have had a team from Louisville, it has but 13 years since the last time a non Louisville Team was in the finals. I am just saying I think there is a reason why it is held in Louisville each year. Let alone that at one time Cardinal Stadium at the Fair Grounds (before PJCS) was the most high tech stadium around.

Your scenario is intriguing, but it would never work because it would be a logistical nightmare of the highest magnitude for the KHSAA and its staff.

Assuming that what you were intending to say was that is has been 13 years since there were no Louisville teams in the finals (Simon Kenton was in the finals last year), by your logic, the 1A championship should be held in NKY, seeing as either Beechwood, New Cath or Bellevue has competed in 18 of the last 19 class 1A championship finals. You might want to consider moving the 5A championship to NKY too, seeing as either Highlands or Cov Cath has played in 17 of the last 22 championship games.

 

The KHSAA is doing what they can to put all of the games in one bunch in one location. That way, they're not having to move their state finals operation from town to town and stadium to stadium, and they're not having to manage multiple state championship games at the same time. Not to mention the fact that it allows for the possibility of fans to watching more than one game without having to drive from Louisville to Bowling Green, or vice versa. And let's not forget the news...don't you think there's a better chance that there will be more/better news coverage if they can send one camera crew to one place to catch 6 games, instead of sending them all over the state?

 

Sounds to me like there are some folks from Jefferson County that need to learn to think a little more worldly. :irked:

Actually very simple to fix the problem:

 

1. Since 6A is realistically always going to be T/X, then let them stay in Louisville and alternate their home fields for their championship.

 

2. The other classes can play their championships on alternating sites, like maybe WKU or EKU.

 

 

On the other hand, lets remember its all about the young men who play the game and we should just let them play where ever the agreed upon site is and support ALL teams ALL the way.:idunno:

 

Where are they going to play in Louisville? Are you asking the KHSAA to bank on every year:

 

1) That Trinity and St. X are going to make the finals

 

and more importantly

 

2) That Louisville and the Big East can guarantee Papa John's availability, which is the reason this was moved in the first place.

 

What are they going to do in the year(s) where either two Louisville teams don't make the finals or Papa John's isn't available? Sure, it'd have worked out this year, but the Big East and Louisville couldn't guarantee it. IT'S THE ONLY REASON THE GAMES WERE MOVED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

 

The games are in Bowling Green, GET OVER IT.

A follow-up on the whole idea of staying in Louisville if it's two Louisville teams and the logistical nightmares that would entail, next year St. X and Trinity will likely meet in the regional finals. Not state finals, not state semifinals, region finals. There are three Louisville schools on the "west" side of the bracket, being the District 4 teams, Male, Fern Creek, and Southern. They play District 1 in their region, and a Louisville school will likely at least make the semis. They would play the District 2/District 7 region, which would likely be a team like Bryan Station, Scott County, or Lafayette. How could the KHSAA bank on it that it would be a Louisville final to book the stadium in advance, when they can't even guarantee it's availability in the first place? Are we seriously advocating that in one week they're going to book the stadium, yanking it from Bowling Green, leaving it up in the air until that point whether it will be in BG or not? How would you plan for that?

There has been one fact left out of this whole discussion regarding the disdain of Louisville, Trinity and X supporters that differentiates their argument from any other state matchup: they're from the same city. As an outsider, it seems comical and illogical that two teams from the same city that are 5 miles away need to drive 2 hours south and over 475 miles aggregate to play a football game.

 

No other state final matchup has that issue. I don't think this would be such a big issue if the opponents were from different cities (SK, Ryle and Scott County in recent years).

 

I understand the KHSAA's reasons and take no issue with the "forced" decision to move the finals.

 

So maybe it should be set up where two teams can't compete in the finals from the same city.

When Trinity and St. Xavier play each other in the finals, it is a windfall for the KHSAA....now that it is in Bowling Green, there is no telling. But when they played here, you can bet that they did better than the other 3 classes combined.

 

Sorry, but I was not impressed with your attendance last year. The weather was not the best, but Heck, this is football... the 6A did not produce a windfall for the KHSAA. Let's be honest here...
