I think the only people making an issue of this are some of the T and St. X fans. If they support their teams by traveling to BG like everyone else in the state supported their own teams while traveling to Louisville over the years, then I think attendance may surprise some people in Bowling Green. I think the community in BG and vicinity is going to be out in force to watch the games. Personally, I like playing in the smaller stadium and think it will make for a better game atmosphere for all the games.

 

Also, think about this. The way things have played out this year, several of the games should get better attendance in Bowling Green than Louisville:

 

Mayfield vs. LCA - more convenient in BG

DeSales vs. Ft. Campbell - since DeSales is in Lou., slight edge to Lou.

Paducah Tilghman vs Somerset - much more convenient in BG

Boyle co. vs. Lone Oak - much more convenient in BG

HHS vs. John Hardin - much more convenient in Lou.

T vs X - much more convenient in Lou.

 

In most of the threads I have read concerning this topic the T & X fans have actually been less vocal about this than the NKY fans.

The whole attendance argument is a "non-issue"... How much money do the teams playing in the state finals get?..... NADA... Other than it being an inconvenience for those fans that have to travel, what's the point of the argument??

 

WKU was the ONLY place to put out a bid for the state finals. The atmosphere will be unbelievable for the state finals. It will at least look packed...

 

I, along with all the true high school football fans, have traveled to Louisville every year, stayed in the hotels, visited the restaurants, etc. If it was held at PJS this year, I'd be doing it again. But, its not. It's in Bowling Green.

 

High school football is not (or I guess I should say, should not) be about money...ever...

 

Also, somebody said the kids around the Louisville area (Male, Manual, etc.) probably won't be able to go.... Don't you think the kids at Bowling Green, Warren Central, Warren East, Greenwood, Allen County, Franklin Simpson, Russellville, Logan County, Edmonson County, Grayson County, Barren County, Glasgow, Monroe County, Metcalfe County, Butler County would like a better chance to go to the games?

I for one am glad it's not at PJCS this year . A change of scenery will be nice . Would it be considered arrogant to wonder if the championships will ever be played at UC because all our best players are from there! Bluebird nation will be at WKU in force . The buses are reserved and ready . Can't wait till Friday!P.S.- Ville fans you had your slice, now let another part of the state have a piece of the pie .:ylsuper:

When looking up the distances on Google, Highlands, X, and T will all travel 109 miles farther this year to the finals than past years.

 

Both 3A teams will make a shorter trip to BG than Louisville

 

Fort Campbell saves the most miles (118), followed by Mayfield (91), and the Paducah schools (66).

 

John Hardin travels 32 miles farther. Boyle County 53 miles farther. LCA 68 miles farther.

This is an argument that is better suited for no time at all. The only reason the games are in BG because it was the only suitable locale available. If Louisville could have guaranteed availability of their stadium, it'd be there.

I just hope that those coming from the eastern time zone don't forget that BG is in the central time zone, as most of the population in the Commonwealth (est) really isn't use to having to think of time zones changes! From my experience, most in Western Kentucky are use to having to deal with the time zone changes!

^ Happened earlier this year on my way to a funeral outside Owensboro. I was at the church an hour early. But St. Alphonsus Liguori is a beautiful old church and I got to look around for a while. Absolutely slipped my mind that Central Time was something I should be aware of. I won't forget this time.

IMVHO...The big difference in attendance for the "BIG GAME" will be the fringe Louisville area fan. The true T & X fans will be there in their usual numbers. It's the fans and students of the OTHER Louisville schools that would be at the game if it were in the Ville, because it is all about the event. The Central, Male, Manual, etc. fans won't make the BG trip. It is only my guess, but that probably accounts for many thousands staying home.

 

The X vs T game is always an event, be it played during the regular season or for all the marbles. The game is what counts, I really don't care how much money the KHSAA gets.

I agree totally. Fans from across the state have been traveling to Louisville for years. It's about the game not the money the KHSAA will make. It will be fun to see how many fans make the trip. Trinity has always traveled well to Bowling Green for games with the Purples.

Regarding Commonwealth, We played there in the State finals back in 1976. We took alot of fans from my memory.

I would agree, but how do they think the rest of the sate felt with all of the games in Louisville. Pretty inconvenienced I would think.
