When looking up the distances on Google, Highlands, X, and T will all travel 109 miles farther this year to the finals than past years.

That 109 miles doesn't mean much when you're starting at your front door; but when you're starting at the end of a two hour drive, it means a lot!

I would agree, but how do they think the rest of the sate felt with all of the games in Louisville. Pretty inconvenienced I would think.

The difference with the BCS is that the member schools get that money, not the governing body.....I wish we got to keep the gate from next week's game....but alas, no.

 

RP, the KHSAA did not get the gate last week. The teams playing last week should have split the gate after paying expenses, so T should have got its share. KHSAA (the governing body) doesn't get a penny from any playoff game before the state championships for what it's worth.

I have a question and maybe it has been asked before, but how is it that Trinity and St. X more than not are playing for the state title when they are both from Louisville. How can that be different regions playing each other when they are in so close locations to each other? That seems like HHS and Dixie (for example)

The way the distribution of the 6A schools works the line geographically more or less splits Louisville in half. There are three 6A districts in Louisville, so unless you want to grossly go against geography the districts have to be split onto 1 side or the other.

Mayfield vs. LCA - more convenient in BG

DeSales vs. Ft. Campbell - since DeSales is in Lou., slight edge to Lou.

Paducah Tilghman vs Somerset - much more convenient in BG

Boyle co. vs. Lone Oak - much more convenient in BG

HHS vs. John Hardin - much more convenient in Lou.

T vs X - much more convenient in Lou.

 

That's a pretty good breakdown. And truthfully, 5A and 6A are the big money games with big crowds, so they should be pretty solid whether the games are in Louisville or Bowling Green.

Why not at PBS or Nippert in Cincinnati! If you can play a playoff game out of state, why not the Championship Games?

The whole attendance argument is a "non-issue"... How much money do the teams playing in the state finals get?..... NADA... Other than it being an inconvenience for those fans that have to travel, what's the point of the argument??

 

WKU was the ONLY place to put out a bid for the state finals. The atmosphere will be unbelievable for the state finals. It will at least look packed...

 

I, along with all the true high school football fans, have traveled to Louisville every year, stayed in the hotels, visited the restaurants, etc. If it was held at PJS this year, I'd be doing it again. But, its not. It's in Bowling Green.

 

High school football is not (or I guess I should say, should not) be about money...ever...

 

Also, somebody said the kids around the Louisville area (Male, Manual, etc.) probably won't be able to go.... Don't you think the kids at Bowling Green, Warren Central, Warren East, Greenwood, Allen County, Franklin Simpson, Russellville, Logan County, Edmonson County, Grayson County, Barren County, Glasgow, Monroe County, Metcalfe County, Butler County would like a better chance to go to the games?

My dad and I used to go every year for about 15 years or more. We haven't gone the past two years but I've been one of them. I have a kid I coached but moved away that is QBing in one of the games and my old coach is helping. I'd love to go see him. To Louisville it's about 3 hours and I would go. To Bowling Green I'm guessing it's close to 5 hours. I hope to get to see him but it sure makes it tougher in BG. I just couldn't see them moving the Sweet 16 to Eastern or Western...

Five hours from where? I don't think there's anywhere in the state that's five hours from BG.

I expect it will be 5 hours from Belfry. Its about 280 miles. Mapquest says 4hrs 52min.

What are you driving, a Model T? Mapquest and those other map sites base their travel times on a 55mph average, which is ridiculous, as nobody drives that slow on expressways. Shouldn't take much more than four hours from Belfry. And I would figure the Belfry/S. Williamson area to be about as far away from BG as you can get.
