To comment of a few different points...

 

I believe St X will roll through with ease. They are that much better than everyone else.

 

St X stadium is great if you sit on the home side. Being a visitor it is not a good experience at all if the visitor bring a crowd. The standing views are bad and the seats fill up very quickly.

 

Manual was defiantly on a down year this season. They were not as talented as they have been most years. They play well and always have under coach Nichols but they were shy of any star power, or at least in comparison to years before.

this game won't be close, X by multiple TD's...Congrats on another fine season, SK, your program does appear to be laying the foundation for prolonged success...

X played HC early this year and blew by them 28-0. Too much speed for HC to handle at that time. Maybe HC got faster??

I will tell you that St. Xavier did not out "speed" Henry Clay in that scrimmage. They outdid them in every other facet of the scrimmage, but it was not 28-0 on the scoreboard because of speed.

 

I will settle this argument.

 

St. Xavier is obviously a good football team, but in no way do they have the skilled position speed that Henry Clay has. This is not to make anyone believe that I think Henry Clay is the team to beat in Class 6A this season.........I don't.

 

Henry Clay is far and away the fastest team in the skilled positions in the state of Kentucky. I will stick my head out a little further and say it is no contest.

 

Simon Kenton has played against the fastest offensive team in Kentucky already this season, and it was their only loss.

Please tell me who is faster on X's team than on Hc's team. The skill players from HC own the track and field area. X may be more athletic but not faster.

 

They might own track and field but can they still run that fast with pads on and trying to avoid getting hit all at the same time track and field doesnt mean a thing.

I have no dog in this fight but I will tell you that I have seen X's Daylen Hall play several times this year. The kid is like lighting!

StrongO, I take no issue with the "track" speed of HC being better than St.X(though X does have an athlete who does not run track but who has runs a legitimate 4.40). But I will say that I don't believe "track speed" always equates to the same degree of football field game speed. A track kid could be a full 10th faster than a football player on the track...but put pads and helmet on both and the footrace could have a different outcome. In addition, very few football plays involve a straight line dash. Cutting ability, balance, vision, strength, size, absorbing contact are all huge factors in a players ability to make plays on both sides of the ball. I guess my opinion, given the score of the scrimmage and what I know about X, is that the football speed between X and HC is much closer than what you suggest. Not saying X could beat them in a relay, but for zigging and zagging, bouncing off people, stopping, accelerating (things skilled players must do well) I would take X's 4 fastest football players over any 4 from HC.

Out of curiosity, how many of the HC speedsters will play football at the D1 level?

They made it evident last week when they played Ryle to have someone hit #4, #24 and #84 on each snap when X had the ball. The SK stars that go both ways will be challenged every play on defense. This had a huge effect on Ryle as they could not keep their initial momentum for four quarters. I respect SK but they have a huge task in front of them Friday.

 

St. X. is returning 5-6 starters that have been injured. Their replacements over the last month have added tremendous depth to their team. For instance, their best running back Jeremiah Neal was moved to linebacker and performed well there. Daylen Hall was probably one of the best punt returners in Kentucky. However, he was moved to the line and has blocked a few punts off the corner recently. LaMont McMurry filled in as punt returner with 102 yards on three punt returns Friday. Nice problem to have! Not many teams in Kentucky could lose 6 starters for a month and actually get better as a team. Tigers 48 - SK 17.

I think Carroll and Hiles are the only ones that go both ways full time and Hiles subs out on D every other series.

Occasionally Brown will play FB, Simpson will play safety, and Hansel DL that is the only ones I can remember.

Congrats to SK on a fine program. But I believe you will find that you are about to enter "another world." Your not there yet.

 

If SK backers are right - and those picking X are wrong - you have all winter to tell us so.

 

However, if the game plays out as forecast - and despite the claims of vast improvement and "not the same SK team as last year" - then it will be still the same result.

I fully understand what you are saying and I agree with your points. I have been around it enough to know what you are saying about the zigging and zagging is true. But what you are saying about St. X having more of it than Henry Clay is false.

I am not sure of how many of these speedsters will be D-I. Their Division I potential will be realized next season.

I don't think that it is the speed in skilled positions that is in question, there are quite a few teams with great speed at many skill positions. The difference is on the line and LBs and X has plenty of that. Any time the Big 10 plays an SEC school proves this point better than anything... Speed at all positions not just the skill guys.

Either way this game turns out, SK is an up and coming program. X and T didn't start out being the super powers they are today. You have to start somewhere. I know you won't respect them until they beat one of the big boys, but they appear to be headed in the right direction.

I'll take your word that HC has X outclassed in pure speed this year and next at the skilled positions. With that being said, I'll still take X's skilled players plodding along at 4.6, breaking tackles, juking tackles and making tackles. To me its like your saying you'd rather have seven or eight "Willie Gaults" on your team instead of 4 or 5 Emmit Smiths because the Willie Gaults would be no match for the Emmit Smiths. I just disagree.
