2 factors that aren't being talked about gives X the big edge in this game - Special teams and line play. When X kicks off, SK will start drives from the 20 just about every time. When SK kicks off, X will start from the 35 or 40 on average. If X punts, they will be boomed. When SK punts, they will be less than boomed. The biggest factor in every game is what goes on in the trenches, not who would win a track meet. Interestingly enough, X would win a track meet if you lined up player for player and put together cumulative times for a race. All the speed in the world means nothing when you are bottled up at the line of scrimmage. St. X is overall stronger in the trenches even though SK has some strong guys - X has more. SK is not nearly as good overall in the trenches on both sides of the ball. X will win this game at the respective lines of scrimmage and with superior special teams, just like Trinity did last year vs. SK. Just don't see it being close for more than 2 quarters.

 

I also think this could be a huge factor. Field position against Manual was huge. SK continually squibbed their kickoffs and they were faced with playing on a 60 yd field. SK did get one great squib that went to the Manual 10 and the Crimsons muffed and had to deal with 90 yds of turf and it actually gave SK the advantage and led to the game deciding fg. SK can't afford to give a team the caliber of X a short field, they must make them work on each and every possession.

Simon Kenton does have a decent chance, but St.X wins, just too much experience and way too deep. This is going to be a great game. I will be there for sure.

Interesting. It sounds like you are saying this game boils down to coaching and game planning.

 

Over the past two years I have been to 8 S.K. games. It seems their coaches do not make adjustments during the game. They wait until half time. At the school were I coached every time the players came off the field the coaches made adjustments. If S.K. waits until the half it may be to late. :idunno:

What I love about this post is the fact that strong O hit the nail right on the coffin here...Another thing to love being an SK fan is HC probably is the fastest team in the state and yet its not like they blew SK off the field in there only loss of the season...SK can play and beat anybody that's just going to rely on fundamental sound physical football and they have done it all season long usually by about 4 or 5 TDS...I know ST.X is a traditional powerhouse but the blowouts SK has had all season equates to a 1TD or maybe 2TD victory over X

I think the special teams comments are good points. As to the line play, I am not so sure. Jordan Hansel of SK will probably be the best lineman on the field. SK's O line is senior dominated. I agree that games are won in the trenches and SK is probably stronger there than most people expect.

Agree with you all the way, special teams could be the big difference in this game, also agree thats SK's trenches aren't too shabby.

With posts like this, is it any wonder why the private schools have so many detractors?

I have not been this excited about a football game in a while, nothing like a big game against a quality opponent that you have never played with so much on the line gets the juices flowing. Go Tigers take care of business!

X beat manual by a TD and Sk beat the by a TD and FG...X beat Butler 35-7 and SK beat them 49-7...X beat boone 49-0 and SK beat them 63-21...

That's funny stuff. Respective scores don't mean much. Just ask Ryle. SK is better than Ryle this year, no doubt, but don't put much stock in comparing scores from previous games. I think a lot of times X has taken their foot off the gas pedal and played 2s and 3s in other games. Thus, the margins of victory are lower than they would have been. X will not be taking the foot off the gas pedal until the game Friday night is in hand. I think that will happen in the 4th quarter some time. As much as I'd like to think SK can hang around for 4 quarters and take this game down to the wire, I have seen both teams close up and X is simply a superior team. And, they will be sky-high, not taking anything for granted. Not saying SK will not be sky-high, because they will be. Simply saying that X is not overlooking SK.

If SK brings their A+ game this will be a good game throughout if they play the way they did in the first half against Manual they will not be in this game at the end. They did not play bad in the first half of Manual but they were a little off especially on offense and if they are a little off w/ X they will pay.
