I wonder how Male fans feel about that? I guess you're line of thinking is that unless a NKY team beats X or Trinity to get to the finals then they don't deserve to be there? KHSAA should probably just exclude X and T from the first 2 rounds of the playoffs then have them play on opposite sides of the bracket in the 2 semifinal games. Atleast that way we know whoever makes the title game truely deserves to be there.

 

 

Not at all, the problem was that the strongest districts were on the other side of the bracket. I am certain that Manual and Eastern would probably have beaten SK last season. This season they wouldn't have(obviously with Manual) but last season if they were on the other side of it then things would have gone differently.

 

Male hasn't been the Male we used to know since 2006 so I am pretty confident that Male fans can feel how they want about my opinion of their squads.

 

I actually have been for seeding the playoffs according to a mixture of rankings or a committee for some time now. That way you could have a better chance of making sure the best teams make the title game.

I understand people thinking SK will lose this game, I just don't think X will hold them to 14 points unless SK get dominated in the field position game. Last years team made it to the state championship with heart, not bc they were that good, this years team is good. Last years team averaged 28 points a game, this years averaged 49 and is much more balanced. St. X isn't as good as last years Trinity team IMO. I'm sorry no disrespect to X but if SK get's held to 14 points in the game then it's because they played horrible especially in special teams that's the only way I see it happening.

 

This offense has been held below 49 points just 3 times all season. I'm not saying they'll drop 40 on X, but I think they'll put up more than 14.

St. X does not use the sophisticated passing attack that Trinity does. It is more of a line up and run it right at you attack with a mix of play action passing.

 

Trinity's passing attack is unmatched in Kentucky high school football. St. X is the only team in Kentucky that I have seen who truly understands how to defense it. Unfortunately, they have defensed it well in the regular season, but not so well in the playoffs the last few years.

 

I do think St. X is a better match up for Simon Kenton's style than is Trinity. I think Trinty's passing attach would give the Pioneers fits. The big questions I see in this game are:

 

Can Simon Kenton sustain the physical play of St. X for four quarters?

 

and

 

Can Simon Kenton not panic when playing from behind?

 

Simon Kenton's emotion may put them on the scoreboard first, but if they fall behind, are they patient and experienced enough not to push the panic button and try to catch up quickly? If they do go into the panic mode, I could see this ballgame getting out of hand in a hurry.

 

Simon Kenton has scored a lot of points in games this season. Can they be comfortable in a game where they are not going to score a lot of points? I am not saying they are not capable of winning this ballgame, but if Simon Kenton were to win this game, it will not be because they scored 50 points and St. X scored 49. Not going to happen.

Kick off could really hurt SK and I'm not so sure about punting either. Those are my biggest concerns. I think SK can hang for a while but poor field position and or a big play for X on special teams could really take the wind out of SK's sails.

St. X and SK are two very good teams; in fact, they are two of the best teams in KY right now. Both teams have some very talented players. The winner of this game will be in a great position to win the 6A title this year. St. X's football program is steeped in tradition, while SK's football prowess is a relatively new phenomenon.

 

I think everyone can agree on these points, no?

This game sets up beautifully in my opinion. I am sticking with my score St. Xavier 28 and Simon Kenton 14. I expect a good game from both with St. Xavier in control throughout. I am not sure St. Xavier really has a second team anymore becasuse so many have seen action on the first team but I would be pretty suprised to see any threes on the field for St. Xavier in this one. I expect to see a tough opponent and hope they bring the fan support they deserve to this caliber of a game despite it being on the road.

It is Wyatt Gray. He struggled early in the season with field goals and extra points while also pulling duty at receiver.

 

He now is only kicking and and is back to old form. He is a good kicker. It is a weapon in High School to have a kicker who can kick it in the end zone. Last Friday night against Ryle a few of his kickoffs did not break the plane of the end zone but the kicks were very high and allowed for great kick coverage. The kick coverage is also greatly improved since the beginning of the year. I guess one of the disadvantages of consistently kicking it in the endzone is your kick off team can get complacent at when it does not go in the end zone you get caught with you pants down.

I enjoyed the story and I'm happy they mentioned the late Randy Sowards and Tim Odom. Those two got the South Kenton Lions up and running and it's been a positive for this program. Add Twenhofel and Summit View (7th and 8th) and it makes for some good competition. Just to think when I played we just had 7th and 8th grade and that was it. It's taken a while but I think SK will be in the mix for a while. BTW, Greg Thomas is a great guy, and the fact that he has no kids in the program and still wants to be a part of the program tells me he truly cares about the program.
