X players do not run track, they play football.

All I am saying is that you made a claim about X fans looking past SK. I asked for supporting evidence. If you are going to make claims you need to be prepared to back them up.

 

Whether you want to believe it or not, it is a matchup where SK is likely overmatched. St.X will win and the closest that this game is going to be is in the first quarter before St.X gets going. Blowout predictions don't mean anyone is looking past SK, it just means that they believe SK is going into a game against a superior opponent.

 

Very true. Perhaps a way to look at the chances for SK would be for everyone to very realistic and ask who would start if you had an All-Star team composed of St. X and SK players. I would wager to say that 2-3 SK players would start on that combined team. X is simply a superior opponent and it is highly unlikely that SK can play well enough for 4 quarters to pull the upset. That being said, Go Neers, pull the upset. And, no way X is looking past this game. No possible way.

X is capable of being upset by SK, turnovers etc.., anything can happen. IF it does happen it won't be because X fans were looking past SK and it certainly won't be because the players or coaches were looking past SK. Coach Glaser may have his faults, but easing up, looking past an opponent, whatever you want to call it is NOT one of them. This X team understands that SK is blocking their path to WKU and must be defeated. I fully expect the Tigers will play with great intensity and come away with a victory.

 

I agree with everything you said. Except the very last word... victory. I just think this game will be the game everyone is talking about on Saturday morning, afternoon and evening. This one will be a close one ...SK will be on top at the sound of the whistle.

 

(That reminds me, when my dad ref'd highschool ball for about 20 years, they actually used a "blank gun" to end the games. Oh my, how things have changed. Now a days one would be arrested for having such a device on a school campus!)

I agree with this statement there is no way any team in the state has the skill position players with the speed of HC, HC is on another level IMO and Manual is up there as well...I also believe that speed can be contained but fundamentally sound run in up the gut football with the most physical back in the state in MR. Simpson plus the fact he has 4.5 speed and having a Dual Threat quarterback like Chad Lawrence is going to be hard to stop for any team and that's what SK is all about...

Very true other than Miles Simpson who is second in the state in rushing and Chad Lawrence who is fourth in the state in passing as well as having nearly 1000 yards on the ground I'm not sure anyone would make that all star team...However I also believe this is why All Star games count for nothing and that So Cal on the College F ball scene would overwhelm Stanford in terms of all star caliber players, but at the end of the day they both strapped on the pads and they were both very good f ball teams but Stanford won 55-21 on Saturday, just thought I'd bring it up again...I am a straight shooter...

What amazed me about ST. X is that when Male High School had some of its most athletic and fast teams when Michae Bush played that X was able to contain speed. Blowing the other team off the line makes a huge difference as well as the skill of defensive backs.

Back to the game. I have a question for the people from the Ville. How good is Manual??? The game I watched last night, if not for some (almost all) dropped passes Manual should have won. IMO. So I'm thinking if Manual is not a good team how will S.K. be able to hang with X?? I hope this question dosn't upset S.K. fans, just being real.

 

Manual is probably a top 5 team in Jefferson County. X, Trinity, Male, Fern Creek all beat Manual.

Ryle is no where near as fast as SK. I believe Henry Clay is faster than X. SK has seen speed but have had trouble with it around the edges. I think if SK can stretch plays out instead of give lanes, that they can win the ball game.

X played HC early this year and blew by them 28-0. Too much speed for HC to handle at that time. Maybe HC got faster??

Miles plays one of the safety positions, with Sage Powell playing the other safety spot...Probably the fastest safety combo in the state...

 

We will see. They may spend the evening chasing down X's backs.

NKUFan88, I'm not sure either of these stats are accurate, particularly the 4th in state in passing. I believe he was maybe 6th in NKY in passing.

I think in order to be a consistently effective passer against X you have to throw swing passes for short yardage, have incredibly fast or tall receivers, or zip the ball in there with the velocity of Nick West (and have receiver that always catch the ball.) On the plus side, he is a good scrambler, but he will be pursued by considerably faster linemen and linebackers than he is accustomed.

Halloween night 2001, Meade County upset an X team in the first round of playoffs. X's only loss going into that game was 28-20 to Male. They had defeated eventual state champion Trinity by a touchdown in the regular season. So, yes, expecting a victory means nothing--the victory will have to be earned on the field.

It seems like the common theme here is speed; SK is listing 1 RB, 1 QB, 1 LB and 1 line man as there speed. St. X doesn't really name one or two players, they talk about team speed... It is for real, I watched it first hand last Friday night. Not only are they fast but they have a very sound game plan and make very few mistakes. I think that Simpson is probably the best RB in the state but I would be surprised if he is able to run free like he has all season. I will say that if he get past the third level, no one will be able to catch him; the problem is getting past the first, second and third level.

 

By saying all of this, I don't mean any disrespect to SK, they have a very nice program and I'm sure a great group of kids. I definitely would love to see them play the game of their lives and bring back a win to NKY but I think that St. X is just too strong this year.

Max Preps has Lawrence as 6th in the state at passing. (Nick West is not on the list at all.) He is a good passer. And IMO it was his passing that opened things up for Simpson last week against Manual. And IMO this is the best big school to come out of NKY in many years. But that means they will only lose by 3 or 4 T.D.s

We have a couple guys that run pretty well, but certainly not "track" speed( I don't think). I think you'll discover who they are Friday night.
